@dramamama2022 it is Miami University in Ohio not U of Miami (which is actually where I went to college )
I hate that Iām so late joining this conversation! Congratulations to all of you on your acceptances/WLās! Wonderful to hear about good times in a process that can tend to be negative.
I was wondering if someone knew the likelihood of getting off the waitlist at CMU? My S was waitlisted for Acting, and that along with Rutgers, which he was accepted to last Monday via portal are his tops. Completely fine with committing to Rutgers as itās been a school he goes ON and ON about since last May, but we BOTH just want to know where he stands.
Also, can anyone speak to SUNY Purchaseās BFA Acting program? He received a call on Friday at about 3:30 from a blocked number and it was Susan Werner notifying him that he had gotten in! Originally a walk-in so we were very surprised.
@actingdreams - you brought up very good points. Again- Iām sorry if I offended- I honestly didnāt mean to and love the support you have provided.
On another note, I was wondering if anyone knows the target class size for Syracuse-Acting. My H took my S to this audition and didnāt pay attention to the presentation.
@rutgersmom321 wow is all I can say! Waitlist at CMU and accepted to both Purchase and Rutgersā¦two VERY selective programs! My Dās #1 choice early on was SUNY Purchase. Unfortunately she was only accepted to the BA. You really canāt go wrong with either of those amazing programs. Rutgers (as you probably know judging from your name) is a large university with all the trimmings. Best part is spending a year in London at the Globe and the fact that itās a 3.5 year program. Purchase is much smaller and thereās not much going on in the area. That may be a deciding factor. My D and I visited Purchase in the fall of her senior year and stayed to see a show. Excellent black box productionā¦albeit very long! The student who spoke with us about the program was sooo impressive. He also starred in the show. His name is Chaundre Broomfieldā¦he was cast right after graduation in a show in Lincoln Center and recently was cast in Hamilton. Good luck that is a really tough decision. See if your son can spend a day shadowing a student at each school. That should help him decide. Good luck!
@momofj5 no offense taken congratulations @rutgersmom321. It looks like my S. received an anonymous call as well from Suny. He just realized it this morning (and heās not good at checking messages) I wonder if my S met yours at Rutgers. Mr. Irvin and the other auditor were impressive during my S interview and heās interested. Itās such a hard choice. He too was waitlisted from CMU but he is withdrawing due to location. Heās also on the fence about the London Globe (and staying in the states to gain connections for work after school). I have heard of others getting off of the waitlist in April and a couple of waitlist acceptances in June from the previous years. Good luck to your S. He has to be very talented!
Someone here has a D at SUNY Purchase BFAā¦is it you @toowonderful?
No itās @artskids
Your son must have been at STN. My D was there also (she was a presenter). She has been dying because she broke her phone on the first day they were there so she canāt access any of the portals. She got into Hofstra and was waiting to hear from Emerson and NYU. she just resigned herself to the fact that she would look when she got home so it didnāt ruin all the fun they were having in Nashville. I hope your son had a great time.
@rutgersmom321 and @actingdreams - Congratulations on the recent acceptances. I didnāt expect to hear any news on a Sunday - this is great. I canāt wait to hear about decisions.
@actingdreams They probably did meet! Did your S do session 1? Yes! My son loved the man at Purchase auditions, think his name is Dean? and the other auditor was a woman that my S canāt remember the name of right now. Oh wow! Withdrawing from the waitlist? My S was bummed out about being waitlisted because he gets too into his head about what someone else did better than him to get waitlisted, and CMU was his 4th waitlist after UNCSA WLād him first, then Otterbein, then Fordham. But he just set his worries to the back of his head and decided to take his chances. I totally get where your S is coming from though! Smart and mature young boy to realize what he wants and know what works/ doesnāt work for him!
Thanks for the insight @marg928 , and so sorry to hear about your daughter! Iām sure Sheāll make the best out of any program she commits to.
@rutgersmom321 Yes! he was there during Session 1. He too was waitlisted for Fordham but heās moving on. he still has great options. Iām sure your son has great options as well. Good Luck with him! I hope to hear about where he ends up
Thanks @MomofJ5 I didnāt hear about anything until today (le sigh) Iām sure he will return the call tomorrow and see what the deal is Itās so weird how perspectives change once acceptances, waitlists begin to happen. What he once thought he wanted, heās feeling Meh about and those I thought werenāt worth looking into, heās rethinking things and looking through the programs thoroughly.
@MomofJ5, my notes from the Syracuse meeting in NYC say they make offers to about 60 MT and 60 Acting in attempt to net 23 in each program. My D didnāt hear anything last Friday, maybe next Friday!
@rutgersmom321 My D is in the same boat as your S. CMU waitlist is an honor (as I have read) but it is so challenging - Oh so close, yet so far away. I have no idea how many are waitlisted but I have seen at least 4 acting waitlist girls - there are probably double that. I have no idea actually. There are CC veterans who know everything - they probably know. Best wishes to your S - he is fortunate to have choices!
@rutgersmom321 itās all good! We went through this hell last year. Sheās a current freshman at LMU.
I have an Ithaca question - is āIthaca Todayā a time for performing arts kids to visit? Or is it the overall school? Or both? Anyone know?
If anyone would like to share with me what they know about the Chapman Theatre program please visit the Chapman thread and leave a comment for me.
My son has been accepted, but itās the school we know the least about. Trying to determine if itās worth it to make a visit to the opposite coast.
Congratulations @actingdreams and @rutgersmom321 Great acceptances! It is all coming together!
@dramamama2022 - thanks so much! Best of luck for your D on Friday!
@blessedgirl3 What would you like to know about CCM BFA Acting? My D is a freshman in the program and is very happy, challenged and growing. Lots of opportunity and collaboration, including great master classes. We just saw their annual original one-act festival and it was amazing! Every BFA Acting student is involved in one of the six shows (random groupings of the 40ish students in the program).
