@Rizzo2 don’t forget to post your Final Decision story! Here’s the link: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/2059580-final-acting-decisions-background-class-of-2022-p5.html
Thanks @actingdreams they really are! It’s getting more and more competitive to get in there too.
Congratulations, @Rizzo2! My D will most likely go there too, so our girls will be classmates!
Congratulations @Rizzo2 and @actingdreams! I really thought my D would end up at Hartt. The program is so good (from my newbie perspective) and definitely has a lot to be proud of. This is such good news!
@ginaf1102 howdy! My Son didn’t even apply to Hartt. We did however find out that it has a great program. A server that frequently waited on us is a graduate of Hartt (being a server is his side job as he auditions). He said that he loved every bit of his time there
My D had about 5 solid offers from varied schools for BFA Acting but when we went to Hartt Accepted student day they had outstanding students from varied areas of the Hartt School perform ( ballet, saxophone, Shakespeare, opera, piano, percussion, modern dance) and she also got a good tour of dorms and rest of campus life. The feeling of a conservatory within an exciting college campus ( Div 1 Sports too) is what sealed the deal! If your D does finalize ( we just paid deposit) let me know!
Will be sure to do a full detail on Final Decision posting as I know how valuable reading those were for me when I first ventured into CC. I think especially important to give confidence to those who may not have had PA high school opportunity or come from more rural backgrounds with guidance counselors who do not have experience with this very unique college track.
@Noreplays2018 I remember the feeling of relief, panic, joy, and trepidation when daughter hit the “accept” button last year! Glad it is working out for your family!
Son does the last classroom visit today. Gosh, I hope this time next week he’ll decide.
@DoinResearch Good luck to him! I sometimes feel like the particular day, the particular weather, the particular everything is what counts but always hope that our kids can see the Larger Picture of if today is just meh, perhaps the other days are amazing
If anyone is waiting for a WL, do you feel that your kid will feel like a 2nd class citizen if they accept their WL choice? Does it make you or them feel not as special? Just curious on that and what others have felt who have accepted their WL choice. We have not or had a chance to but we hope to get a yes on the Tisch WL.
@HopeinMT As for “2nd class citizen”, personally, I think that is a very common and natural feeling to have and be concerned about. My S and I have both talked about this a lot. However, I have given this much thought and have come to strongly believe that these programs are simply made up of kids that getting in either on an initial offer or through the WL and in the end whether the student was a “1st draft” pick or not will not matter at all once they are there. It is a business and this is just the reality of it. Honestly, I don’t think it will make much difference in the long run.Good luck!
@HopeinMT - I agree with @frontrowmama. There is a big difference between a rejection and a WL. With the WL, they are saying that your kid meets all criteria needed to get into the school. Why didn’t he get accepted? it’s probably numbers. So if the numbers problem goes away (not enough accepted kids matriculate), then there is no reason why they wouldn’t want your kid and he is exactly like their other accepted kids talent-wise.
Think of it this way, if your kid got the job to be the understudy for Evan Hansen - would you be happy that he has such a great opportunity, or sad that someone deemed Ben Platt to be better (I can’t remember the next actor who now has that role since Platt moved on). You’d be thrilled and he’d seize that opportunity- right? So a WL at his dream school is just that. An amazing opportunity for a very talented kid.
Thanks @MomofJ5 and @frontrowmama your opinions are valid and make sense to me now!
@HopeinMT I look at WL this way: those number of kids who’s are strong possible candidates, applying to the more desired programs, and possibly getting several top offers - can only accept one. This means schools also don’t know who will accept or go elsewhere, but for sure they are going to vie for those candidates just like the other top schools. While they all “chance” on the strongest students, these programs know there are many more great students out there. So the WL is there to help alleviate chasing the top most. On any given day a program may have viewed your kid as a “top”or not. And we see that with many of the single prized offer among the many rejections!
Second issue is ability to pay…in our travels, this story: student commits while still WL. Arrives by plane at 2nd choice school, deplanes and receives WL offer. Turns around, never steps foot on campus and acccepts WL offer. How many of these kids (parents!) enter this process and don’t really see what’s up until that first bill comes through?
Third point: life happens. Any number of kids may have reasons that they simply cannot attend, and at some point decline the offer. Again, schools are working to hedge the unknown just like we are. If they only have 8-10 in a class, you can bet that program wants it filled. Possibly the 24-30 class programs don’t worry so much about filling last minute knows…just a guess.
Anyone having a S or D going to LIU Post. D decided that she really liked the program after visiting and just trying to make some connections for her before she gets up there so she knows someone prior to going to school. We are also trying to navigate the possible roommate situations as well. Thanks.
@BrokeDad0530 - @NewEngMTMom started a thread for LIU Post Musical Theater - her D is starting next year as well and she would likely be a good person to connect with since your Ds are in similar majors.
@daughtersdreams Thank you! It does feel like life is starting to return to the normal state of anxiety now (given the world around us). D and her parents “know now” that the decision made is the best choice for her (but, I know, there will always be a lingering “what if” for the dream school, and that is OKAY, because life is filled with choices like these and she knows now how to honor her own path, even if it is the road less traveled).
@Noreplays2018 - I suspect you will find many people citing finances as part of the reason for a final decision. I think also this may happen more and more as the month goes by with final FA packages short of what was needed…
You guys! the timing is near. I can tell you that this has happened to be one of those most Stressful times in my life regarding my kids! I honestly don’t know what was worse. Was it this process or Labor Pains. At least I knew that the Labor pains wouldn’t last for weeks and I only had to see BLACK for a few minutes or hours ( I can’t remember, it felt like but I knew that I’d never want to experience it Ever again! lol). My S. hasn’t clicked the button but I have a feeling that he’s leaning towards DePaul. I can’t believe it! I even paid the refundable Room and Board deposit just in case he had waited until the last minute. I was riding the train today to my dentist downtown (the train is behind my home) and I looked around at the Water and the Buildings and restaurants, museums etc and thought WOW this is an amazing City!! my kid has been living at home as a young student. He leaves home at 6:30 am and has never made it home earlier than 6:30 pm for the past 4 years. He hasn’t been able to Really do all of those Teenage Things that maybe many of you who’s kid wasn’t in a PA school or were in a school that let out traditionally prior to 3 pm, has been able to experience. Since he will not reside under our roof and will be living in Lincoln Park (near my office but I’m hardly there), He will finally be able to be amongst Peers. Getting out of conservatory class at 4:15… being 1/2 block from the train. Already knowing where some Hip places are for out of towners and him befriending kids who are from the areas that he had planned on attending school, makes this close the Very Best Thing. Juilliard hasn’t even crossed his mind because he chats with every one of the students plus some Juilliard graduates almost daily. He was told that if he auditions next year, he’d certainly be accepted however this isn’t him. I think we’re down to our final moments. I’m sure I just typed my story on this Pre Screen-Auditions- Sharing but thought I’d actually “Share” where we are If anyone was reading if anyone cared lol. We’re just about there. I hope to click an accept button tonight and proudly tell him that I’ve already reserved his Dorm and reserved his space with his classmate who has worked with for the past 4 years
@actingdreams Love your post and so excited for you and S!!! Almost there!!!
