@HopeinMT, I asked my older D once while she was in school (graduated last May) how many in her class had been on the WL. She had no idea. She said it was never discussed & no one had any idea who was an initial offer & who came off the WL. The kids have no idea & she didn’t really think the teachers did either. It was really a non-issue. An offer is an offer is an offer!
@BrokeDad0530 - I bet there’s a group in The Green Room (the Facebook group for auditioning students) for LIU-Post students. I know they form groups of accepted students from lots of the schools. Even if your D doesn’t “do” Facebook, it would be worth it for her to joint just for that. It’s how they “meet” their classmates before they meet in person.
@actingdreams, I have enjoyed following your son’s journey through your eyes. It’s a great story and you are a great storyteller! I am sure I am not alone in feeling joy for you both. I am sure your son could thrive at any of these schools, which does make it hard! So glad to hear the decision is at hand and you can start envisioning the future.
@actingdreams - DePaul met every one of my D’s criteria (urban, larger size etc) but it was in Chicago - and D doesn’t like Chicago (which is CRAZY - but there you go) I strong armed her into applying to Northwestern, but couldn’t slide DePaul in too.
Their website says they accept 92 BFAs - how do they break down the class sizes?
@actingdreams - I’m so glad that that you are getting close! It’s been a long road and you’ve been SO kind and welcoming to everyone here. You and your S deserve a great outcome.
@toowonderful yes! You have to go where the energy fits you.
92 BFA’s include 24-30 actors
The rest are
Costume Design
Costume Technology
Lighting Design
Scene Design
Sound Design
Stage Management
Theatre Technology
Dramaturgy/Criticism
Playwriting
Theatre Arts
Theatre Management
The class we sat in on had 11 students and they said there was another class of 11 students. All of the actors switch off in some capacity. all of the students will work together or co-mingle in some way (this school seems to have all of that pretty worked out)
I don’t believe its 30 total actors as it once was before. at least the 2nd year students that we witnessed only had 22
@actingdreams - I remember your post back in January, right after your S’s audition at DePaul. :)) But there is so much to love there, and all around town. Why would he not click that button tonight? Not counting the chickens just yet - but I have a feeling we’ll be seeing each other at plays in the next few years!
@HopeinMT My D would be thrilled of she was accepted off the WL at Emerson. What she says she will feel bad about is telling the school she has committed to as a back up if she gets in. She feels bad for any roommate that she may be letting down, even though she hasn’t been assigned one yet. Either way she is happy with the choice she has.
@actingdreams thank you for sharing so much about DePaul! Your posts have been great for those of us stuck here in WaitList Land – if we ever have a chance to give DePaul more consideration, we’ll be much more pulled together about what questions to ask!
@“Jamieand Winthrop” I want to be transparent because there has to be someone else in our shoes who is lurking and never says anything I like to say that I’m speaking for those who can’t or are afraid to
I Never in a gazillion years thought that I would be promoting a school that was so close to me! Never but look how the universe works! Since you can double major and it will be hard, he’s considering BFA in screen writing and Acting. Chicago is full of energy! you will love it and find inspiration Everywhere. The waitlist is very small and I’ve heard that they will be pulling from the waitlist this year right after May 1st. I know 2 of my Sons friends who are attending BU and Syracuse on a Full Ride (remember if the program is great, money tops in our neck of the woods)
you may have a chance to get in. I would suggest you call and inquire about your waitlist spot at the theatre school and possibly mention your child’s name to show interest. I feel like most of the parents here bragging excitedly about the faculty. I’m almost laughing at my experience because this place includes so much of whats happening and it’s been right up under my nose all along and thinking about all of these applications, flights, callbacks etc… just wow!
Call tomorrow if you can. Please keep us posted!
@Atreuh :)) yes! I just knew that he blew that audition and Interview! Him telling his auditor that he’s looking for just conservative and forget all of that Intellectual stuff :)) lol. He said she rolled her eyes LOL. But he’s there and she’s emailed and called him. She also was very excited to him at the weekend. Our boys have already friended each other on FB. We’ll see each other lots I’m sure! I’m talking like he’s already pressed the button but he did just ask to use his CC to make his deposits I think we’re in
@actingdreams I am SO excited for you and your son!! I have been reading your journey for a while now and you are very inspiring and knowledgeable. Thank you for your honesty in all this. Break many legs and cannot wait to hear more!!
@actingdreams it’s so funny that you made that comment, “if anyone cared lol” I bet for every person that posts a comment back to you, there’s ten more lurking. It’s because of your awesome, informative posts that I decided to come out of the woodwork and start posting! I’ve loved following your son’s journey and have learned so much from it. I’ve added a lot of info about DePaul on my list I’ve been slowly compiling. My daughter is only a freshman, so I’ve got lots of time! I hope when it’s our turn, I can be half as helpful as you have been. Congratulations!
Haha, @Atreuh that was wishful thinking on my part! I’ve always loved theater, but NEVER EVER could be a performer! I’m at a loss on what to do with her sometimes. She’s nothing like my other kids :))
