BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@ginaf1102 adding my congratulations! So excited for y’all. Ditto @MomofJ5 - contact the financial aid office to see what they say. She can’t go wrong with either program!

@ginaf1102, I just realized that you posted your most recent post in the original “Class of 2022” thread, but over the past few months, this one has become the “main” discussion thread. (I don’t know how that happened, and it’s definitely confusing, but it is what it is!)

So, just to keep the discussion in one place, let’s stay here!

You posted: “Thank you all so much for your suggestions, advice and kind words. My D didn’t even tell me she got the email until around 10:00 last night (I probed), right before she was face timing with her potential new roommates. She doesn’t want to talk about it until it becomes real. That’s fair. And even after that, I am not sure she would change her mind. We will do our due diligence, but her young, not fully formed brain is in deep love with one program and to sway her now may be impossible. This is where some serious parenting is going to be needed, but ultimately the choice is hers.I will keep you posted!”

I replied: “Honestly? If she’s so in love with BU that it turns out she doesn’t change her mind even when offered a CMU acceptance, I think that’s wonderful! It would confirm that BU really IS the perfect fit for her! People tend to get caught up in the “brand name” and prestige of CMU, and certainly that’s worth something and of course the training there is fantastic…but it’s STILL all about fit, so don’t lose sight of that! The most important thing is for her to go to the school that she WANTS to go to, whichever one that turns out to be. (I know you already know that, of course! I’m just making a general observation!)”

@ginaf1102 congratulations!! this is a GREAT Sign!!! A friend came off of the Waitlist Yesterday and was offered with aid (she lives in Pittsburg not sure if this means anything) but she was notified yesterday morning After she had accepted May 1st for UCLA lol. Of course, she’s going to take CMU… can’t wait to hear about your Daughter getting in

I also agree with @actorparent1 it doesn’t matter what school it is, it has to feel good and be a good fit! After our Long Journey, I can attest that many of these programs circulate faculty. you may get to Boston and next year someone from CMU or Juilliard will be your D’s teacher. The same works for CMU. The Theatre school has a Previous assistant director from CMU and 1st year acting teachers who used to teach at Juilliard and Boco and Northwestern Drama department. All of these great programs seem to be packaged the same (almost) So location, Fit, and name will be your top list :slight_smile:

Thanks, @actorparent1! I have no idea how that happened. Weird. It could be the allergies, or the end of the semester grading, or the college stuff that is blowing up my mind. Thank you for moving my post! I appreciate your organizational skills!

I’ve been thinking about you over the last few days @ginaf1102 and trying to figure out if you made a decision. I figured you may be waiting for word from CMU before you make an official announcement :slight_smile:
So exciting that she may get the chance to consider CMU! Huge decision! As a parent I would be tempted to go for CMU but from their side I think they’re very much set with what they chose. Your D sounds a lot like mine although my D went a step further. She committed to BU two weeks ago and when she did that she actually took herself off the CMU priority WL and also decided not to stay on Juilliard list after May 1st. She seems extremely comfortable with her decision. I’m pretty sure if I had to make that choice I would not know what to do lol! I’m glad she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to make a decision. Trust your D to make a decision that’s good for her. She may need some time to figure it all out if/when CMU calls on Friday but she will get there!

Has anyone on the Syracuse Waitlist here heard of any movement? My Syracuse Waitlist thread has seen a lot of activity in the past two days, but no one has posted from the School of Drama. Thought I would check with both the Acting and MT threads!

@Fergie978 - are you allowed to call to ask if they are going to their WL? Or to ask how many people accepted? My S committed to Syracuse, so I’m interested in hearing the answer to that. Good luck!!! And keep us posted.

We did ask them two weeks ago, and they just said they couldn’t share that? Maybe I will try to call and ask them again - specifically for musical theater.

Obviously there is a fine line between bugging them and letting them know how eager your D would be to attend. The latter is absolutely essential. Good luck!!!

Over 24 hrs without a post on this thread!
That must be a record. I keep checking for news @ginaf1102 :wink: no pressure

@Atreuh Ha Ha!! No news here. The email says they will update the portal “later in the day”. I am thinking it is pretty much later in the day at this point - and nothing. I don’t think its looking good. This type of waiting is so unhealthy. Newbies - be prepared to not get any quality work done from January to April 1st. For us, we are getting an extra dose of it here in early May.

Ok. It’s a no from CMU. We can move on - I will write the Final Decision post sometime this weekend. It is all officially over! YAYAY!!!

Whew! Congratulation on being DONE @ginaf1102!!!

Ugh, @ginaf1102! Previously I had commended CMU for emailing everyone’s results on the same day (acceptance, rejection, or waitlist) and not dragging out the suspense like other schools did. I guess they’re making up for it now! :stuck_out_tongue:

Let us know as soon as you hear!!!

@ginaf1102 - well you had quite the nailbiter, all day waiting until 5pm. Luckily, you and your D both had a great attitude and really were already happy with the incredible offers she already had, and a super happy match at BU. It’s also still a HUGE compliment. WL means you are talented enough for the program, it’s just all the other “stuff”. Congratulations on being totally done!

@ginaf1102 - =D>
Congrats! All good - and you won’t have to travel so far to see you D in the plays!! I agree with @FourStars - huge compliment! You’re done!

@ginaf1102 Clearly you have an amazing and talented daughter! I can’t wait to hear your story. This has been a journey for you too! I’m glad that she’s landed in her happy place! Congratulations

Aw. Well, just as well - now she can happily enjoy the school she already loves without the stress of a last-minute decision. :slight_smile:

@ginaf1102 - A blessing! Your D didn’t even want to think about it. Now there is NO second guessing. Congratulations to you both!!!

@ginaf1102 - definitely a blessing - no what-if’s! Congratulations!

For anyone still on Point Park’s waitlist, D got an email today asking if she would like to remain on the waitlist, as they might have openings in the coming weeks. She graciously declined, but those dominoes are going to continue falling!
