BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Thank you everyone. When my D saw the news she shouted “Thank God”. Ha Ha! It is all good. My Final Decision is almost done - but it’s LONG!

Yay for finally having final decision @ginaf1102! Sometimes the easiest decision is the one you don’t have to make lol! Maybe we’ll get to meet at BU sometime soon

LOL! I LOVE your D shouting “Thank God!” She KNEW BU was “her place” and didn’t want any pressure to switch! It really is the perfect outcome.

I have to share this stupid thing: D just got the letter from Pace officially offering her the FTVC slot. The letter stresses that the deadline to accept is 11:59 pm on May 1…but the letter is dated May 2, and the envelope is postmarked May 4!

I suppose their administrative rules require them to send an official letter of acceptance, even when it’s too late!

My S got in off Ithaca MT waitlist but for acting not MT. Anyone with info on this program or have any idea on how they help actors with musical ability?

@DramaMan - Congratulations. I only know a bit, but I will share what I know. First, that is how Ithaca handles the waitlist for Acting. In other words, there is no WL for Acting. So when spots open up, they offer them to MT. (My D was on Hold for Acting, and they were very clear there is simply no WL for Acting). So, this likely means that they have pulled from MT WL for an Acting spot or two in the past and you could/should try to find those people if you can. Although my D is Acting, she is a strong singer and we looked hard for Acting programs where there was good cooperation between MT and Acting. Ithaca was pretty good as I recall. You should clarify exactly how much Voice and Dance training there is. As I recall, you CAN take their classes, it is just hard to get in. I had the feeling if you were persistent, or if you ask this upfront, you might be able to get what you need.

Now, just my two cents, if you can get the Voice and Dance training you need to be competitive, Acting training is what prepares you to be competitive for leading roles. But that is just personal opinion. Others may (likely) chime in! You should ask this on the MT board too, perhaps you have!

@DramaMan My D was redirected from MT audition to Acting WL at a different school. We talked to the department admissions and asked those questions. I do wish we had a student or parent to ask about the real picture but school reps did tell us how to get into dance classes and vocal lessons. I also saw that Acting students had MT leads and have thriving musical theater careers.

My S was originally placed on the alternate list at Pace. We gave in and agreed to allow him to attend even if he did not make it off the list, paid tuition/housing deposit. He ended up receiving an acceptance to Tisch and Pace quickly became a thing of the past for him. Here is where I need some guidance from there experienced. We mailed, emailed and faxed a letter requesting our deposit back and to be removed from the alt list on April 2nd. There was a separate form for housing and deposit was quickly refunded. On April 23rd, my son received an email saying he was fully accepted in to the acting program off the alt list. Since then we have tried calling, faxing, snail mail, emailing trying to let Pace know he is not coming. He is being flooded with Pace welcome emails, snail mail, calls and his account shows a huge tuition charge. To sum up a very long post, how do we let this school know he is NOT coming. I spoke with admissions dept Friday and they had the audacity to say it was too late to receive my tuition deposit back. At this point I really don’t care about the $100 as much as I care that there could be some kid still hoping to get in their program.

On Friday, when you spoke to admissions, did they hear that your son was not coming? Or did they end the call by saying “Great, then, we look forward to seeing you in the fall!”

@heyyme - try contacting Wayne Petro, Associate Director of Enrollment, Pace School of Performing Arts

@VASkydog- I laughed hard at your comment!
@coronado - we have emailed him. Let me try calling him directly.

Whole thing is just weird because Pace gave my S no love during the process.

@heyyme - This process is maddening but we definitely noticed some schools have the routine down better than others. So excited for your S and for whoever gets his slot at Pace! We had trouble convincing them my D wasn’t coming but that was just the main U, not the PA school…

How long to hear back from Chapman? When did you submit your prescreen last year?

@Jazzycats I just responded on your other thread, but last year my son submitted around the beginning of October and did not hear back that he passed until November 17th.

Hi 2022 Acting from 2025 Acting! Just started a new thread, “School-specific scoop on Acting & Musical Theatre programs”, would love it if you would contribute some insight now that you’re experienced with the acting program. (help us! remember March 2022?) Appreciate anything you have to add!
