What great advise!!!
Hi everyone. I am trying to watch the Olympics and check CC and all the portals a little less often. I am not always succeeding but I am trying! My D now tells me to get off CC! But you have all been invaluable to me, both those who have been through this before, THANK YOU THANK YOU, and those who are learning by doing this year. While I have hunted for clues regarding how the auditions went, now I am just looking for dates that we will hear to get through this waiting game. Just remember, you only need ONE.
Yes @FourStars, I am finding myself being on my computer every spare second these daysâŠtaking things one day at a time. And thanks for the reminder that you do only need ONE! That reminder came at just the perfect time today No amount of planning could prepare anyone for this journey and the physical, emotional and mental toll it takes on you and your kid. Thankfully, my D is MUCH stronger than I am!
Best of luck to everyone during this waiting game!
Iâve been on CC for almost 5 years now, and there are so many people we know IRL & from CC stories who thought they would get into a program based on what was said in an audition room, or who thought they bombed an audition and got in programs! There are many posts on the MT board (usually more active than Acting, but not this year - go, us!) about not reading things into the audition.
@VASkydog - others may have differing opinions, but even though D1 got an offer before Chicago Unifieds from a great school that she loved (and ended up attending), she didnât accept until late March. She was âon holdâ at her dream school and because of scholarship money, it was also very affordable. She didnât commit to her school until she knew she wouldnât get an offer from the dream school. She was able to tell a couple of schools quickly that she would not be attending, and she let a couple of schools where she was waitlisted know that she was not interested in remaining on the waitlist.
I knew going in that this time of year - all auditions are finished - was the worst, but even having done it before, the feeling now of not knowing where my child will be going is heart-wrenching. D2 has several friends locally who are going through this, but none at her high school. I keep having to tell people that this is what her sister did (and also explaining that my college grad living in NYC is working multiple part time jobs so she can audition - haha!). Now for another glass of wine and Olympics!
I swear Iâm gonna stop mind-screwing myself after this one last post!!
For those of you who are tormented every day at work wondering what might be sitting in your mailbox, just thought Iâd let you know that you can sign up for âInformed Deliveryâ on the USPS website. Youâll get an email every morning with actual image scans of the packages and envelopes that will be delivered that day. It has cut down on daily mail anxiety in our house quite a bit.
@FourStars - so wise! The Olympics â what a great idea for the next 2 weeks! I just bookmarked this thread on CC: âOne of the Best Books Iâve read in the last 6 monthsâ Lots of good suggestions for diverting our attentions till mid/late March http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/403424-one-of-the-best-books-ive-read-in-the-last-6-months-is.html#latest Somehow, we will survive.
Oooooohhhhh, I love to read - thanks @Atreuh!
Yes, thanks to all for your sharing. Itâs simply invaluable right now to hear from other people who Get It. I was telling a coworker about Unifieds last week at lunch, and my boss (who has a freaking TWO YEAR OLD) said, oh so matter of factly, âIt sounds as if youâre taking a lot of her anxiety and stress on yourself.â I just stared at her.
And even though sheâs the worldâs nicest person, I now find myself thinking the most evil thoughts. Such as wishing upon her a future in which her 2 y.o. AND any future children she might have all pursue not just acting, but musical theatre [cackles gleefully].
@momof2lefties Thanks! Thatâs great to know. (And the most interesting thing Iâve heard about USPS in decades.) I wonder whether it was invented by the parent of a HS senior.
My oldest son (not my lefty) is a mailman and even I have never heard of this service. I just donât know if I want to know which bills await me when I arrive home from work.
@momof2lefties OH NO. My obsessive self may do this.
@artskids Itâs actually very liberating! The email comes first thing in the morning and then everyone in the house can move on to focus on their day and not think about it anymore.
Yes! Informed Delivery is the best! I check it every morningâŠwe have also had the conversation about any mail that may be coming will likely NOT be good news. Hopefully some good news starts arriving in email form!
The only thing with Informed Delivery is that the school has to enable it. Learned on another threadâŠschools like USC like surprising the students and didnât enable it during their scholarship interview invitation round a couple of weeks ago.
@katew529 That made my day! So funny!
Informed Delivery - mostly used by companies sending out invoices and advertisements. Mailers have to pay for it. Colleges are probably not going that route.
This is not the same. This is an image scan of every piece of mail (except catalogs) coming to my mailbox, including personal greeting cards that were delivered from my mom yesterday. The scan happens automatically from the sorting machines. Itâs not USPS guaranteed delivery or official confirmation, just a service provided to anyone who receives mail. I signed up for it after a package went missing from my porch over the holidays. This way I can have a neighbor pop over and grab any package that shows up when iâm Not home. Itâs not a paid service offered to shippers like Delivery Confirmation.
the downside of the mail scan is - that is no longer the most common way of notification. Donât get me wrong, I wish it was- I think âthe big envelopeâ has much more pizazz than a portal update
Informed Delivery definitely lets you see what is being delivered to your home every day. has nothing to do with companies or spam mail, although those are of course are included in the mail. It also lets you know if packages are being delivered to your home. You can let them know if you havenât received items that should have been delivered. Good thing to have even when you arenât waiting for college news.
