BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Thanks @laylamom and @actingdreams - Stomach Churning is so right! My gut is upside down right now. I am going to write a post at the end of this journey about the systemic physiological reactions to audition results. Lol!

@actingdreams - Congratulations on the Rutgers callback! No Rutgers callback for my D either. I am not surprised because she was not ā€œfeeling itā€. She did a walk in with lots of encouragement from me, and her acting coach, but I knew her heart was not in it. Then they sent an e-mail saying she needed to apply to get a decision. Itā€™s not on Common application, plus the $70. Oh well. I am glad they posted it today instead of the 20th for everyone to plan.

HI @FourStars Thank You! Iā€™m really shocked about this one and wouldā€™ve been fine had he not received it. Did not expect it at all. All of these applications are so expensive. Iā€™m glad that you went before paying. We actually paid for CMU. They were nice, all of those secret signs were there but surprisingly, my kid isnā€™t feeling that school either. The energy just didnā€™t feel right to him. I totally understand where your daughter is coming from. This is going to be a tricky time for us. Iā€™m glad he was chosen for the 1st session and they did offer to fund his trip if we requested it (that was niceā€¦ Juilliard offered the same) but He is in honors/ap classes and I canā€™t stress enough to him that he has to stay on top of those things. He will miss a Thursday-Friday and then Friday the following week for travel again. After this, we will be finished completely and hoping to hear some acceptances from these schools but expecting a LOT of rejections too  We only need 1 Really good one  BAL to your daughter <3

@ginaf1102 - hugs to you and your D. BAL at Emerson! And thereā€™s UMinn/Guthrie next weekend. And sheā€™s got a nice batch of acceptances - which tell her sheā€™s definitely got the right stuff for these programs!
The rollercoaster is hell. After prescreen, just getting an audition is a win. Then if you get a callback, it feels like youā€™ve won the lotteryā€¦but no. Getting this far shows that our kids (especially the girls) have great confidence and resilience that will serve them now, in school and through life.

Congrats, @actingdreams ! It was a no from Rutgers for my D. She is okā€¦Shenandoah for MT on 2/24 and then auditions will be done.

Thank you @owensfolks! Sorry for the Noā€¦ the callback came at a time that we have a reschedule for IL Wesleyan until March 3rd due to the snow storm last Saturday. Now he needs to quickly make a choiceā€¦ Rutgers or IWU. Hate this. ( I know, it shouldnā€™t be a choice but do you choose another safety near home just in case no one of these others work out?)

BAL for Shenandoah!! I hear itā€™s an excellent program for MT. MTā€™s are my favorite! The triple threats  well trained. sing, act, dance! My kid is none of this  Please keep us posted

@actingdreams. Would your son go to IWU over Pace? If he would not, then to me it seems possible that he should go to the Rutgers callback. You already sort of have a safety in Pace. Do you have a safety near home already? Would they accept a video?

@owensfolks - I am sorry to hear about Rutgers for your D. My D is okay with it. It is a terrific program that I wanted her to love, but she was never fully into it. The junior year in London was appealing though. Hang on everyone.

@FourStars we have a safety near home yes. I will ask about the video today. Iā€™m making travel arrangements now for Rutgers! Thanks for the advise

No Rutgers callback for my D. Sheā€™s very upset - that was her dream school. Lots of tears. Iā€™m glad she found out AFTER her Hartt audition!

Iā€™m so sorry @actorparent1. It is so hard to see them sad and have such awful feelings. I think it is a good idea to let them be sad - support the sadness, mourn the loss - for a day and then time to move on. This is the business they have chosen. And now that we are getting a taste of the ā€œnoā€™sā€ I have a feeling there are plenty more for my D coming up. Ugh. It is so hard!!

@ginaf1102 Thank you for the heads up on the Rutgers portal as I was able to check via my computer. My S is a no as well. Sorry to all the rest of you in the same boat. It is so very tough and I think Rutgers is around a 3% acceptance rate unfortunately. Again, no reflection of talent, but getting the specific types to fill a few slots.

@actingdreams your son is killing it and canā€™t wait to see where he ends up!!! Congrats!

Finally, Otterbein did send an email last night the notified ā€œyou are remaining in the pool for considerationā€. That came through get accepted. Best of luck to everyone:)

@frontrowmama When did your son audition for Otterbein? My son received that message after his NYC audition but hasnā€™t heard anything additional. Was that your first message since the audition? TIA.
Hang in there everyone and BAL to all still auditioning!

@vpvpbp he just auditioned at LA Unifieds. It looks like they have 1 more on campus audition this week in. Best of luck!!

@actorparent1 - D and I have had a saying for years regarding casting etc, which would certainly apply to the college process as well - ā€œyou get to feel your feelings, then you move onā€. Hugs - and wishing all good things as she moves forward

@actorparent1 Iā€™m so sorry about the callback. Iā€™m glad that she was able to get through Harttā€¦ Thank you @frontrowmama! really a surprise (Juilliard is on our mind but we love the London aspect of this program). It would be so great if we can solidify one of our top schools

@actorparent1 - I am so sorry about the callback, especially if she took it hard. Itā€™s even harder to watch as parents! @frontrowmama - that is good news to still be in consideration for Otterbein. Itā€™s also a nice compliment. @actingdreams and others - how many are called back to Rutgers Mason Gross, for how many spots?

@fourstars! I may not be accurate but a very long time ago when we applied, I think I had read that they call back 40 or 50 people for the weekend. as mentioned before, the email states there are 2 sessions. The first session that weā€™re in is March 1st-3rd and ends at 4 pm on Saturday. The next session starts March 3rd-5th. Iā€™m only making an assumption of it being 20-25 per session  (check-in is at 6 pm) so Iā€™m assuming they give the 1st session 1 hour to get out of there so that the new group can check in

on another note, I keep looking out for the UNCSA rejection letter. Nothing today

@actingdreams Okay, well if it is 50 people and they take how many? 16-20? The numbers are reasonable, but of course, everyone in the room is talented. Iā€™m sure he will do great. Re: UNCSA, no news is good news right now. I know a lot of people who received their rejection letter, but I think it was NYC letters that went out and now Chicago is next. Plus the rest of the phone call acceptances are supposed to be THIS week.

ohhā€¦ Did you Audition for UNSCA in NYC? I thought you were here attending Chicago Unifieds. It was such a busy time, I honestly donā€™t remember.
16-20 is not bad considering Juilliard only takes 9 out of the final 25. I think the final 50 (they went from 40-50 this year) 25 are mfa, bfa 25 candidates. I know 3 so far that are straight out of HS. may the one that they are looking for be chosen
