BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@dramamama2022, I am so sorry. Huge hugs to you and your D! I’m expecting that letter too, because they emailed us to ask for our apartment number so mail won’t get returned. But it will still hurt when it comes, because it’s such a great program. I hope your D gets some fantastic acceptances soon!

@sopranomtmom , you’ve gotten me so excited for Hartt! It sounds amazing! Fingers crossed that D’s audition goes well tomorrow!!!

@FourStars , congrats on RCS! It sounds very promising! To answer your question, we were not at USC. D’s schools are all East Coast aside from UNCSA.

To add to the EA list: University of the Arts is rolling admission.

@dramamama2022 I’m so sorry. We will all find our place. We haven’t received a letter yet but not one of the calls either. We have gone into this knowing we will get rejections and honestly I’m waiting for them so that we can move on. Do you mind sharing when you auditioned? Is your D’s top school still yet to have responded? We’re rooting for her.

@dramamama2022 Sorry about UNCSA! You and D are not alone! No phone call here either. S just auditioned last week, so have no idea of when we will here anything via mail.

A friend’s son just graduated from Hartt MT program, and it was amazing to watch the process over the past 4 years. One of his classmates kept a blog about it … yeesh, I wish I could find it now, I’ll keep looking. Anyway, yes, very acting-focussed, even for the MT kids.

Friend’s son is already on a major tour with a super role – will be appearing here in his hometown in the next few weeks, and we’re all going to pack the theater!

@mychildsslave regarding housing in NYC next summer, the answer will vary somewhat with the age of the person living there (18 is the minimum age to check in most places), the length of stay, and the gender.

We went through this last year when D was 17 and went to NYC for a week by herself. I found various places she could NOT stay because she was too young, and she was staying too short of a time. ON the other hand, older D was doing an internship in a different city (DC) and there were tons of options of places that do summer housing for people over 18 – I’m pretty NYC has the same or better once you meet that magic age of 18.

@mychildsslave - I know that there is NYU housing available - which is nice b/c it adds a safety factor etc - not cheap, but then nothing in NYC is…

Rutgers CallBack Emails are out.

Just received email from Rutgers callback. So happy it’s a bit earlier than the 20th…can plan

my last post didn’t sound pleasant and read almost pretentious. I meant to say OMG we received a Rutgers Callback! It literally was a surprise (read our audition post about it) It is very unexpected. Of course, we’re excited and grateful and very happy that they notified us in time to schedule travel. The email states there are 2 groups so there is the first group then a few days later, the 2nd group (if this helps anyone)

congrats on the callback @actingdreams! Lots of travel in your sons future.

Thank you! Yes a lot. Unfortunately (fortunately  ) He gets to travel alone for this one. I hope that he gets to connect with some Cc’s when he’s there. Hope others receive emails when they check tomorrow. It is rather late for some

Great news @actingdreams. He’s a busy one. Where else are you (or just your S…) headed?

@actingdreams, my D auditioned for UNCSA on campus on 1/14. I hope that info helps.

Thanks for the link, @artskids !

No callback here. I am so bummed for my D. She really loved Rutgers. Congrats to @actingdreams! You guys are killing it!

Congratulations, @actingdreams ! I am so excited to see where your S ends up!

@ginaf1102 , I’m so sorry. So Juilliard gave her a (same day) callback, so she’s obviously incredibly talented, but Rutgers didn’t. It’s such a mystery how these schools decide! I’m glad your D has the Hartt acceptance, so she WILL definitely have a wonderful school to go to! But I know how hard it is when a favorite school says no. :frowning:

My D is still asleep, so I don’t know yet if she got a callback. She’s the one who gets the emails! But as much as I am dying to know, I won’t mention it until AFTER her Hartt audition this morning. Last thing I need is for her to see a rejection from her dream school right before walking into an audition! I’ll have her check after the audition is over.

In other news, I got a flat tire here last night! Just what I need when we’re out of town! I had a “donut” in the trunk, so I called roadside assistance and got the tire changed. Hopefully the donut can handle driving to the audition - I’ll find a tire place afterwards.

Thanks, @actorparent1. Her portal was updated as ‘not admitted’ - I can see it because we share a computer with all the passwords saved. Maybe the rejection email will not come until the 20th and she will not know before her Emerson audition. Let’s hope!

I wish the best for your girl! She is going to crush it today! And I hope she has an email when she wakes up.
Sorry about the flat - the pot hole and frost heave situation in New England is intense!

@ThenSheSaidIt thank you! He received the Juilliard weekend callback invite march 9th-11th. (His dream school)

@ginaf1102 your d is getting into so many schools. It appears that these programs are even harder for females to get into and she is quite talented to havemade it this far so you should be proud of her (I am)

@actorparent1 thank you ! All of this is great but we only have 1 auditioned Yes and thats the Karma school (pace). My story about it will be legendaty and even more so if it happens to be the only yes that we get after all of this
I am pulling for Hartt! It is such a great program
I want all of our kids to make it.
Im so sorry about the tire thing. That is a typical my story. BAL today

BTW. want to remind everyone what our kids are signing up for.
Juillard is my sons top choice. Were you aware that the training is roughly 9am- 9 pm or 10 pm Monday-Saturday ? This is typical for 4 years. There is an hour for lunch, an hour for dunner I believe and the story goes that its quite mental for the 1st year. Some of these lrograms require you to really think about the longevity of them. Wanted to point that out

@dramamama2022 thank you. We did not receive one of those magical calls from UNCSA either. Some did and they auditioned at chicago unifieds like we did. We will find our school

@ginaf1102 I am so sure your lovely daughter has a boatload of talent. That is obvious from the results she’s had so far! I think most parents here have spectacular talented children or I don’t think we would all be here or have come this far. We all would have veered or steered them off into another direction.

We’ve all entered though, this immense national (international?) talent pool and I think the auditors can love love love working with your child but when they are auditioning roughly 1000-ish, it becomes a total crap shoot. Those of us with girls…even more so.

For mine, she stared out the process with yes’s and has yet to even get a call back from her dream acting schools like Guthrie and Juilliard,We did not do Rutgers (conflicts). I’m surprised about Guthrie but the woman in the room was a real sour puss and my daughter felt very off on that audition so I guess that was that. I can see though that it her confidence has been shaken.

The minute you get the yes’s- it’s so easy to feel that it’s a validation of everything they want and have been working for-and it is. The no’s to the dream schools (the one I know is coming from UNCSA) are just awful. Especially in this cyber world where we don’t know what they know and wonder if they are holding in their disappointment.

Thank goodness they have us to help them maintain their equilibrium because this process can be fun but it’s also a total mind f***!!!

Break a leg at these last auditions everyone. Next year we’ll be the sage parents with flourishing kids and can offer hope to those in the throws of this STOMACH CHURNING process. It is very challenging to stay clear through this. Cyber hugs to all!
