So, I got a letter in the mail today saying that UT BHP has deferred my application to the pool that receives their notification by March 31, since I applied by the priority deadline. I just have a couple of questions as to what this implies.

Does this mean that I will not find out if I got into the regular business school till March 31?

Does this mean that my application was borderline so they will compare to incoming applications once they have all of them or that they are simply being nice to me and letting me down slowly because I applied in the priority deadline.

Since I did not receive an interview the first time, will they call me for an interview later on in January?

Just confused about this because while I wasn't expecting to get in, I would rather have had a clear yes or no to BHP and McCombs rather than having to wait four more months.

No. BHP and McCombs have totally separate admissions. Because you applied priority for BHP, they notified you as they said they would, but McCombs is in no way obligated to do the same.

BHP (and other schools with two rounds) generally gives very few rejections if you apply early. Most people, if not accepted, will be deferred. It is very rare to get a rejection up front. With that said, the two scenarios you gave could both be true. It is not impossible to be accepted following deferral, but it just depends on the rest of the applicant pool.

They will only give you an interview if you are seriously being considered. Not everyone receives an interview.

Hope this helps!

My DD got a BHP deferred letter, but subsequently got called for and had an interview in mid-December. So she is still hoping! It would be good to know if/when people who got deferral letters start getting acceptances/rejections.

I applied for BHP two days before the deadline. When do people in this application pool figure out if they are accepted or not?

I applied December 10th. Am I even going to hear back, if at all?
