Which type of science class would you recomend to a business major that is horrible at science?

Will having a bad interview completely ruin my chances for BHP. I did awful…

@sunshine341

I don’t know too much about communications, but I think you have a decent chance in all 3.

haha, i got this! I took AST301 with Winget for my part II science credit (I don’t know how it is if you take it as part I where you need 6 hours). Overall, it was a pretty easy A. Pretty interesting course as well. Definitely different from all the science classes I took in high school. I’ve also heard that bio is pretty easy (though I didn’t take because I don’t like science and astronomy is the least science-y thing I could find.

how awful? I doubt the interview has much weight. I think it’s mainly a way for alumni to stay connected to and invested in the program. Unless an interview goes horribly wrong (e.g. cursing out the interviewer or lies on application are exposed), it won’t be that big of a deal. My interview definitely wasn’t great; very awkward and uncomfortable; it didn’t even last twenty minutes (I think it was around the 13 minute mark). So don’t worry too much about it.

Mine lasted about 30 min and I guess the main problem was that I was just not very confident. Honestly this was my real interview so I was very nervous kind of even stuttering I guess. A lot of my answers were repetitive. I don’t know… I just want to get into regular McCombs at least. Still haven’t been accepted there.

@fullmetalx

Hmm, that’s weird, you should have gotten into McCombs first.

And don’t worry, mine was repetitive as well. It even got to the point where my interviewer said, can you use another example besides x?

@Hayabostbh

Yeah I just now revieved an email saying that UT is reviewing my BHP application. So like 1 week after I got the interview email. I don’t know what’s going on

I’ll be applying to McCombs as an Engineering Route to Business Major in August, and will be planning my classes for senior year soon.

I am in my third year of Spanish, with II and III being Pre-AP, and I have straight A’s in them, but am leaning away from taking AP Spanish IV next year. Would that hurt my chances of getting in? (I’m about between the top 4-6%; I don’t know my rank yet) Or rather, would my chances of getting into McCombs increase in a significant way if I were to take the fourth year of language?

Also, I would like to take an Independent Study to offset the workload of almost all AP classes as well as college applications; would this impact my chances negatively?

Whether or not you take Spanish four, it won’t significantly affect your application (if it even affects it at all). I.e. I got in and I took sp4; my friend got in and she stopped at sp3. They don’t really place weight on languages unless you want to do International Business.

I don’t think Independent study will affect anything. I took two off periods senior year (6 APs though). If I could have done it over again, I would have definitely taken less APs. All that stress was so unnecessary. Take it easy senior year. The most important thing will be your resume +rank/sat scores.

Also, ERB has been eliminated. It is now known as Science and Technology management. It is essentially the same thing, but instead of a business block and an engineering block, you are given a list of engineering courses and business courses to choose from.

Hey so I was wondering if I HAVE to get into McCombs before I can get into BHP? Right now on Mystatus it sill says they haven’t decided yet but I have already received an interview for BHP and they said I’ll find out in a few weeks if I get in or not.

@fullmetalx

I was accepted to the BHP in November and what happened for me was that I was accepted into McCombs and then a few hours later, on the same day, I heard back from the BHP. So technically I guess I was accepted to McCombs first, but really my admissions to both came at relatively the same time.

@haleyssmile
Oh okay that clears things up. Hopefully I’ll find out soon!

@fullmetalx

There’s no set rule saying “you must get into McCombs before having your interview,” but I know of 3 people who had their BHP interview long before they heard back from McCombs, and it wasn’t favorable in either regard. I’ve also never met a bhper who had their interview before their acceptance into McCombs. BHP is supposed to be “more elite” than McCombs so it makes sense for the people who are being considered to make it into the first tier before moving on to the next step. It’s also impossible to be in BHP if you’ve been rejected by McCombs.

Also, for haleyssmile’s example, the day you find out is not necessarily the day you were accepted. It usually takes a couple of days to two weeks for the information to get processed via online/mail; sometimes even longer. She was accepted, first. She just happened to receive notification of McCombs and her interview at the same time.

@fullmetalx @hayacostbh

I think I misunderstood the question, leading you to misunderstand my answer. I found out that I was accepted to both McCombs and the BHP on the same day (within hours of each other). I had my interview for the BHP long before I heard about my admissions decision for either.

@FullMetalX

I think I can answer your question since a BHP admissions officer visited our school to discuss the BHP program at UT. A question like yours was brought up, and long story short, she stated (im paraphrasing here) that all applicants will first be accepted/rejected from McCombs, and then those who did get accepted move onto the group for BHP. Then from there you can be deferred to the regular pool or accepted.

Hm. I guess it can go either way then!

Haha, also, haleyssmiles if you keep referring to bhp as THE bhp, people will know you’re a frosh. :P

My child is from a “non-ranking” very competitive, private HS, and was selected for an interview for BHP in November, and then received a letter stating she was deferred. She has not been accepted to UT OR McCombs yet.

Anyone hear from mccombs recently? Like this past week or so? I’m hoping they roll out more decisions tomorrow
