I applied to UT Business Honors for the early deadline and I can see on my status page that I've been accepted to McCombs. Does the fact that my decision has already been posted mean that I'm in to Business Honors, or only McCombs as this point? Thanks for any help :)

No BHP acceptances are completely separate and are sent in the mail.

If you applied for the early deadline you should be hearing soon if you haven't heard yet.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting into BHP. With stats like yours you'll get in easily.

annn--

not to hijack his thread
but how about a

2130 (800m 690V)
5.26 gpa
4.0 UW
6 out of 500
Average ECs and lots of job experience (20 hrs/week almost all high school--including shift leader at an ice cream store :-D)

chances at BHP?

I had an interview in december and i am waiting to hear

BHP is all about the numbers. You've got good test scores (a 1490 on the scale they use) and a great class rank. I'll be surprised if you don't get in based on that.

I got in back in December with approx. the same stats (my SAT was a little higher though, 1510). If you got an interview, that means your stats were good enough. As long as your interview went A+, you should be fine.

great thanks for the help both of yall

annn unless my interviewer was just a very good actor he seemed very interested and excited about everything i told him about so i was hoping to hear back from them but its been almost 2 months so ive just been kind of driving myself crazy.

it doesn't sound like anyone has heard since my interview though so i guess that's a good sign. congrats on your acceptance!! are you going to accept?

but back to the original poster---
i didnt have much time to respond in class today:
I know for a fact acceptance will be sent to you via mail. It seems like they notified many if not all of the early deadline people though so maybe you should give them a call.

Has anyone else heard when the rest of the notices come out?

lol, i got an interview but did not apply. i applied to nursing

How did you get an interview if you didn't apply?

My son got a letter today. I think it is a no.

I am sorry to hear that. What is the reason for "thinking" it was a no.

What were his stats, when did he apply?

It is a no. HE IS VERY DISSAPOINTED. I hate this. Not much more he could have done.
Applied Oct 31
Rank 1/450 (competitive public suburban school)
ACT 34
Varsity Sport - lettered
12 AP's
EC's average

I'm so sorry to hear that.
It's also very discouraging for me :-(

That's very odd after what everyone has been saying about the emphasis on GPA/SAT.

I'm sorry to hear that flatxca... did your son ever hear from USC?

I knew that it was no slam dunk, but thought he had a decent shot. We visited a few times and it sounded like the perfect program for him. He is fantastic in a group project setting and I know that is an emphasis in the program. Now he wants nothing to do with UT.

No nothing from USC either. Bad week here. I know it is worse for him, but so hard to be the parent and watch things explode. At least he is angry and showing a little passion.

Is he considering still going to UT and transferring in later? I mean for most people this probably wouldn't work, but it seems as if he has the work ethic and the brain power to do it. I still think it is a bit ridiculous considering he was number 1, and a 34 ACT(considering I know someone with a 21XX and number 1(means nothing at our school with 45 number ones)) and she got in fine.

My oldest got both UT BHP and USC Presidential Scholarship with a 34 and tied with 33 others at number one 4 years ago. Did it get that much harder in 4 years? We are trying to figure out what the difference is. Sometimes it is just one of those things. He will now seriously consider his other choices. I hate that he feels he worked so hard for nothing. It was not easy staying number one. The lowest he was ever ranked was 3 out of 1430. The school split and he was 1 out of 450 and stayed there. LOTS of time and work.

Funny, the letter suggested re-applying to BHP after the freshman year (they took 43 of 111 applicants), but really, if he did not get in as a valedictorian with a 34 ACT, 12 AP's and a varsity sport, I can't imagine what he could do to change the outcome.

The numbers of students that apply to BHP starting last year has increased dramatically (2005- 475 applicants, 2006- 804). Did your son have strong leadership ECs? I think that's what saved me on my BHP acceptance considering my ranking is a little bit lacking - I have an editor-in-chief leadership and I write for the Houston Chronicle (which they seemed extremely impressed with).

foxshox- BHP only uses M+V which is probably why your friend with a 21XX got in-- she probably had a high M+V score.

He is an officer in one club and a member in a couple others. The year round sport took a lot of his time, but our area is very compeitive and you won't make the team if you are not very dedicated.
