So im going for my masters in Management Information Systems (half way finished), I graduated with a double major in Business Finance and Economics.

Im looking at possible careers through job shadows and internships.

I was wondering, where is there more room to grow? Business Intelligence Analyst or Database Admin.

Im no programmer but I understand some code and concepts
Im also familiar with datamining tools and stats software.

Both are fields im interested in and looked into just want to take the first step in the smartest direction and not want to be at a deadend position.

thanks

Bi is becoming huge in companies.I’m betting there is huge growth in this right now.

I subscribed to this thread a while ago and am not surprised that there’s little response as these two areas are quite different from each other. DBA is somewhat more of an IT area and can require a considerable amount of training because databases are so complex today. It does help to have some programming background and maybe some CS theory to do the DBA job.

In the BI area, there seems to be people that do the heavy math side of it and then people that use tools that don’t necessarily know the algorithm/math side of how it works. I know that there’s a fair amount of demand for BI but don’t have visibility into jobs outside of engineering BI products.

I agree with BC.
At our company both areas are in IT.

We rotate in and out of positions to become more well rounded.

Dba positions can be very advanced. I consider myself pretty decent at databases but don’t think I could work on that team. BI on the other hand I would consider.
