I’m an incoming senior in high school who really wants to go to Northwestern University’s Bienen College of Music. My grades are slightly above average but not spectacular, but I hear the admissions for Bienen are mostly based on audition and they’re less strict with grading than the rest of NU. I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA and a 1700 on the SAT but I’m studying and taking it again in October. I have had B+'s and A’s throughout my entire high school career, and two C’s during Junior year. I’ve only been in one AP- AP music theory in which I got an A. I’m taking AP Statistics and AP Lit this year.
I have been in my state’s All Shore Chorus for 4 years, All State Chorus for 3 years (the maximum number allowed) and All National chorus for one year. I am the section leader of my school’s choir and I do a bunch of musical things outside of school (Teach private lessons to kids, numerous choirs). I play 3 instruments well enough to audition with them but I will most likely be going in as a vocal performance major.
I know my chances probably aren’t great because of my grades, but I’m hoping if I apply ED and my audition goes well, my grades might be overlooked. What do you guys think?
I applied early to Bienen too…
@scyinpiano hey, I applied ED to bienen. Did you get an accept/reject letter today? Idk if I was supposed to? :-/
