My daughter is a promising soprano who wants to major in vocal performance. Her GPA is not stellar but her extracurriculars make up for it, in my opinion.

GPA- 3.5 unweighted, 3.7 weighted

ACT- 31

Classes- AP Music Theory, AP US History, AP World History, AP Government

Extracurriculars- Multiple performances with a University Opera Theater

Lead soprano in high school operetta

Multiple vocal awards (3rd place at NATS, All State choir, Tri M Honor Society, etc)

Beta Club, French Club, Service Club, etc

Kentucky GSA program

What are her chances of getting into the academic part of Northwestern? She got invited to audition after hearing her prescreening, but she’s worried about her academics.

Based solely on academics she falls short. My D applied last year with better academics (and a two alumni parents) and did it get accepted.

Bienen is a tough admit because of the rigorous academic admission at Northwestern.

What other schools are on the list?

UK, CCM, Butler, Depauw, and South Carolina are her other options. Northwestern was her reach, but she feels pretty confident after hearing about them liking her prescreening. I don’t think they would listen to someone who didn’t have a chance of getting in. Seems like a waste of time.
