BIG 10-2012/2013 and on

In the meantime…Notre Dame is finally being exposed tonight! The BCS really works…NOT! Seriously, did anyone think ND was going to win this game?

LSU is a top 20 team at best and they have no business being in the top 10

Except the Big-12 is better than the PAC and you can check the head to head bowl records if you don’t believe me

The overrated Notre Dame kinda legitimize the SEC bias. But then I was kinda expecting a blowout since ND beat nobody (no, they didn’t beat Stanford on their own but with the help of officials) and were very lucky to beat the lowly Pittsburgh. They could have easily had few losses.

Sparkeye, the difference between Michigan and OSU was Alabama and its home schedule. If Michigan played Cal instead of Alabama at the beginning of the season, and had Nebraska, Notre Dame and OSU at home instead of on the road, they’d be 12-0 too. And like Notre Dame (or whatever other team is in their place), they’d be totally exposed by Alabama right now.

Baylor beat a UCLA team missing 3 starting OL. Oregon took K-State to the woodshop.

I think we have to give credit where credit is due: Alabama also blew out a very talented LSU (defensively) team last year, and had Mark Ingram not had to come out of the game for a quarter (their offense died when he went out) probably would have blown out UT even worse.

I mean I don’t think anyone else outside of Oregon/SEC (maybe Stanford) could have gotten within 2 scores of them.

Let’s be honest Alexandre, Michigan was not going to go 12-0 this year even with the same schedule as Ohio State. We just aren’t an elite team right now.

Urban Meyer who coached Tim Tebow, THE Ohio State University Buckeyes will be ranked #2 in the land this season, period. Go Bucks!! :)

Alex, maybe?! But we also had to play B1G Champion Wisconsin Badgers and beat them at Camp Randall. I do not see either Wisconsin or Penn State for that matter on Michigan’s schedule this season?

Michigan guaranteed to beat my Bears, Alex?! Hmmmm…

We did beat the Pac-12 South champs. Lol!

There are no certainties in life Sparkeye, but OSU’s 12-0 record would not be the same as Michigan’s 12-0 this season. There was no Alabama equivalent on OSU’s schedule. And I do not think Wisconsin or PSU were that strong (7-5 and 8-4 regular season records).

^^ Perhaps Alex. But, this is known as tOSU’s rebuilding year with the new coach. On the other hand, Brady Hoke supposed to take Michigan to a repeat of top BCS Bowl Game/Peformance if not dominating the B1G - especially with school’s top recruiting classes. In short, even if Alabama were on Ohio State’s schedule, the worst that Buckeyes could have done this “regular season” would be 11-1, not 8-4 like the Wolverines.

Was there a game tonight? ;)

Please Sparkeye; this was no rebuilding year for Ohio State. It was just a continuation of strong recruiting classes that have been going on there for years. Michigan is still rebuilding from it’s RR years when there was a entirely different philosophy brought in. Simply put, Michigan overachieved in 2011 and were fortunate to play modst of their toughest games at home . Finally, who knows where the Buckeyes would have ended up if they got badly beaten in their first game?

Michigan lost to the #1, #2, and #3 teams in the final rankings, all on the road. Their other loss was to a better-than-average Nebraska team, also on the road, when they were reduced to starting their third-string QB. The only one of those teams that really dominated was Alabama; they lost to #1 ND by 7, and to #3 OSU by 5.

I’m not at all surprised by the Alabama-ND result. Michigan and ND were very evenly matched teams and that game could have gone either way, but Denard Robinson had, by his own admission, the worst game of his career with lots of bad decisions and even worse throws. In contrast, Michigan was completely overmatched against Alabama in the season opener, and although Michigan improved over the course of the year, no doubt Alabama did as well.

W-L records can be highly deceiving. ND had lots of narrow scrapes against good teams (13-6 over Michigan, 20-13 over Stanford with the game ball going to the ref for a huge game-changing call) and mediocre ones (20-17 over Purdue, 17-14 over BYU, 29-26 over Pitt in 3 OT, and if I recall correctly the refs pulled that one out for ND as well). They could have just as easily been a 4- or 5-loss team as an undefeated one, and no one would have been surprised.

I expect that Oregon will be ranked higher than Ohio State in the AP poll, as it should be. OSU wasn’t really impressive with so many close wins (against Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and California).

^^^Don’t forget the win over Indiana 52-49. Can you imagine any team being ranked number one and giving up 7 touchdowns in a game against, of all schools, Indiana?

Made a little quiz

[Can you name the Who won the Bowl Game? (Please read instructions)? by Barrk | Online Games & Trivia by Sporcle](Who won the Bowl Game? NCAAF 2012-2013 Season Quiz - By Barrk)

I don’t know, rjk. We were 6-7 last season (first losing season in the last 25 years of Ohio State’s history), and loss 5 star/starting players including the star QB due to the tatoo scandal the season before. With a new coach and new coaching staffs, this is known as the rebuilding season so far as the buckeye fans are concerned, and not many if any expert had tOSU gone undefeated this season.

Maybe, Sam. But I am not certain if Oregon IS better than tOSU the fact that it loss to Stanford, the team that barely beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

FWIW, Jeff Sagarin’s computer ranking has OSU’s 2012 football strength of schedule number 60 in the country, 4th-weakest of his top 25 teams. Only Utah State at 97, Florida State at 66, and Clemson at 61 played weaker schedules. Winning 6 games by a touchdown or less, including 2 in OT and 2 others by 3 points or less against such mediocre competition is not exactly awe-inspiring. Sure, a win is a win and all that, but this is an OSU team that, like Notre Dame, could have just as easily been a 4- or 5-loss team as going undefeated. But then, except for road games at Northwestern and Michigan, it looks like they’ve got another cream puff schedule for 2013, so their chances of landing with a nominally impressive W-L record are high.
