BIG CITY university with good language programs

I really like Middlebury's language programs, but I would rather be located in the city. I've lived in suburbia my whole life and I'm ready to go to college in a big city.

What are some decent universities with great language programs? (Immersion dorms, etc.)

Georgetown in Dee See

To be honest, most top schools have good to great language programs - language is one of the areas like political science where it’s tough for an overall school to go wrong. If you’re interested in less commonly taught languages, that’s going to narrow your search. Otherwise, look at George Washington, Tufts (any school with a good IR program usually has a good language program), WUSTL.

D has been looking at Asian language and global study programs. Harvard, Brown, UCLA, UW, UBC, U Chicago, and UT Austin seem to have a lot of variety in the languages they offer. Macalester is a LAC with a good reputation for global studies, lots of international students, and a location in St. Paul (Minneapolis) area.

Penn has great language programs, is in Philly, and great overall programs.

If you can’t get into Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania is very strong in languages, including Asian languages (both East Asian and South Asian). And Philadelphia is definitely closer to “BIG CITY” than any of the schools on the list save for Chicago.
