Big interview for son tomorrow

OK one of my twins has a summer internship in engineering in San Diego and life is good as he rented a place near the beach and the company is paying the rent for LOL. I think I will go visit ;)

His brother is interviewing for a great opportunity in Portland tomorrow. Man I can actually afford a vacation up the west coast this summer if he lands this one.

It appears engineering internships are holding up ok. Son in California was on a robotics team that was heading to Puerto Rico for a competition but they all landed summer internships and they may not go. I didn't expect that one.

Anybody else seeing good opportunities in internships for engineers or are my sons just lucky?

I remember when they chose their schools 3 years ago. The schools are very different in rankings and cultures yet both seem to offer some great opportunities and both sons are doing quite well. The tier 3 school is holding up quite well when compared to the top 25 private.

I don’t know, but hooray for your boys. Crossing fingers for the Portland job!

Congratulations and good luck to your son #2. They were wise to pursue engineering.

I think things are opening up. I don’t think it’s just engineers, either. I was surprised to see the young people in my son’s graduating class getting jobs in management consulting, finance, and scientific research. Another friend (engineer) had offers from Microsoft and Google. My son has had internships throughout his college years in his environmental field, and he just landed a fellowship. The opportunities are there, but I think the students have to be on their toes and have the support and guidance from their colleges to get them.

My son is working for Google this summer. He had an internship last summer too, though only after another internship got withdrawn, so he had to scramble to find something else.
