Big mistake...fixable?

I was not aware that vanderbilt required two ACADEMIC recommendations. i submitted my application with one rec from a drama teacher. does this eliminate any chance i had of being accepted?

Can you send the additional recommendation now? I suggest emailing Vanderbilt admissions apologizing for the error, and telling them that the required letter is on its way. Many, if not most, top colleges require two teacher recommendations (it would have been helpful if your GC had noticed that you were missing one). I’m presuming that you did ask two teachers for rec letters earlier in the process. Did you apply RD or EDII?

i’m sorry, i phrased my situation in a confusing manner. I did indeed submit two recommendations, one of them academic, the other from a drama teacher. I have another recommendation from a math teacher on the commonapp, I just stupidly chose not to submit it. I applied RD.

In that case I think I’d contact admissions and ask if they’d like the second academic letter. If you had the drama teacher in the classroom for a theatre class, as well as perhaps as your EC mentor, I’m guessing his/her rec would be considered academic enough. Good luck!

I applied ED1 and my rec didn’t make it until a week before they were mailing decisions home! I got in though, so don’t worry too much.
