I have gotten into Virginia Tech, University of Dayton and will, hopefully, be getting into William and Mary and UVA as I am in-state with good numbers. However, I have also been admitted to the ASU Barrett honors college with a near full tuition scholarship. The Barrett honors college seems to have a multitude of opportunities for students, but I am hoping to go to a good law school afterwards.

Any advice? Does the school name make that much of a difference or will a high GPA and LSAT score get me in no matter where I go to school as an undergrad?

You have excellent options. Do you think W&M or UVA is worth an extra $6K or $9K a year? You’re the only one who can decide that. Keep in mind that you haven’t received financial aid offers from UVA or W&M yet.

Undergrad name only makes a difference in law school admissions if your UG is completely unheard of–and even a high LSAT score can compensate for that.

The room and board for the Barrett Honors College sure is a lot, but I can tell you their dorm is ridiculously nice and the food their is amazing. Unfortunately that’s all the information I can provide. Good luck with your decision.

For you, that “big name” isn’t too far away monetarily-wise. In-state for VA residents is a great deal. There are plenty of people who have paid much more for a big name. That said, ASU Barrett sounds like a very good option too.

The monetary difference isn’t big enough, at least IMO, to make ASU Barrett the obvious option. What I’d consider instead is a) the law-school placement rate/resources and b) your ability to maintain a 4.0 or near-4.0 GPA.
