Hi,
I'm currently a freshman at a small liberal arts school. Right now I am completely miserable here. I already knew before I even got here that I was going to transfer because I didn't work hard in high school. I strongly regretted it after seeing my options when I got my college acceptance/rejection letters. Ive worked hard since I've been here and this is obvious if you look at my grades. My high school GPA was somewhere from 2.6-2.8 and so far my first semester GPA is around 3.7-4.0. Well, I hate being here. Looking at my high school GPA it is obvious that its easy to get in here. I was kind of hoping people here would have been similar to me in the fact that they slacked off in high school but want to work hard now. That isn't the case. I absolutely hate it here. My question is, is there anyway I can take classes for my second semester at another college and commute from my home in Southeastern PA? I know that its really late and past most transfer deadlines. I looked at schools that would be easy to get into like Drexel and Temple and their transfer admissions deadlines for spring semester have passed. I would consider taking classes(political science major) at a community college before coming back here for my second semester. Is there anyway I can take 16 credits worth of classes at another school and commute from my home? I'm looking to transfer to a much more competitive/urban school for Fall'08 so I don't want to just take off the spring semester because I need those grades to replace my high school ones. Does anyone have any info that could help me out? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I looked at university in my area and I couldn't find a transfer admissions deadline. The regular admission deadline says "rolling". Does this mean I could apply for the second semester still?

---By the way I'm not trying to sound like some whiny emo kid or anything but I'm just really unhappy here and feel I need a change before transferring to a school I really like next fall =)

fabregas. Your community college should be taking class registrations right now so look them up on the internet. You will have to be admitted but this is pretty easy. Your cc and previous college credits should transfer over to another college (depending on where you want to go).

Call your community college and make an appointment. Good Luck!

I'm transferring to Temple from a top 60 school after the semester (through connections). Call as soon as possible (if you havent) and tell them you'd like to transfer. See what they say. They might not give you housing, but you might be able to transfer.

Thanks for the feedback. The problem is I'm not 100% sure I'm going to do this. I already told my parents that I planned on transferring at the end of the year. I'm going to tell them about this idea of going to a different school for spring semester over Thanksgiving break so I know that it will be too late to call Temple by then. I was thinking about West Chester University. They have rolling admission so I could talk it over with my parents. Plus its only like 30 minutes from my house(I'm south of WCU). I don't think I'm even looking for housing. Living with my parents for a whole semester isn't ideal of course lol, but I think I could focus more on school and maybe get a job so my transfer application for Fall '08 would look stronger. Would transferring two times just in freshman year look bad? And any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would not recommend West Chester in the slightest. Where are you at now?

Now I'm at Elizabethtown. I live 20-30 min south of WCU so I thought it would be a reasonable option. Remember I'm planning on transferring to a better school for Fall '08 no matter what I do for spring semester, my favorite choice probably being Northeastern. But why don't you recommend WCU?

ook. Northeastern? You sure? Besides the fact that they're one of our rivals, the school is kinda lame and 5 year plan no matter what. Where in PA are you?

I'm 20-30 minutes south of West Chester. Like 40 minutes south of Philadelphia. And I've only heard good things about Northeastern on things like studentsreview and I'm pretty sure the 5 year plan is optional now for the college of Liberal Arts.

I'm also going to apply to BU for Fall'08. My mom went there and said she really liked it and my friend goes there now and says he really likes it too.

I live in Southeastern PA, and I wouldn't count WCU out just yet. West Chester has notable programs that are worth considering. It all depends. Many people in my area count it out because it's so close.

I was also considering Pace University and Suffolk. Pace is in NYC and Suffolk is in Boston. Since I'm only going to spend a semester at one of these schools I think it might be a good idea to see if urban life is right for me before applying to Northeastern and BU for fall'08

To clarify, the "five year plan" [i.e. co-op] is completely optional unless you are an architecture major.

Fab- If you absolutely do not like Etown, maybe a cc while
you decide where you want to be for the next 3 years. You
need to keep a high gpa. It seems like a jump to go to Temple etc. for 1 semester. Penn State satellite campus?
