Big Ten Schools

Hey, I just want to know my transfer chances to a few big ten schools. I currently attend a community college in Illinois with a 3.8 GPA. I plan on attending the LAS school. I'm not certain about my major, but it will probaly be either chemistry or biology.

Iowa
Michigan State
Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Purdue
Indiana-Bloomington
Wisconsin-Madison

Well with a 3.8, good recommendations and good EC's you can get into all of the universities listed:)

I don't know all of those schools that well, but I think the hardest would be Wisconsin-Madison, but a 3.8 will get you in there, perhaps you might want to even look at more competitive schools. But we'd need more info (sat HS record ec's etc). All in all you'll get in all of them

YES, What are your EC's? High school record doesnt matter if you have a certain amount of credits. But you should try more prestigous schools. Dont sell yourself short.

Yep with good SATs you can get into an even more competitive college.

I agree. Have you considered Michigan?

Thanks for replying, I really do appreciate it. I have enough credit hours at the end of this semester to make high school an afterthought. Plus I just slacked, worked and slept through high school which gave me a sub 3.0 GPA. Reguarding my EC's I mostly work, but I still do some community service every now and then, but not too much. I'm not a typical college confidential poster who seems to have enough EC's to save the world, or find a cure for cancer. I just went to community college to clean my act up, and find redemption in academics. I have not considered Michigan, because I think they require the SAT's which I never took because the state of Illinois focuses on the ACT's which will not matter for my transfer applications, or so I'm told. To be honest with you I don't know if I'm selling myself short but I think those schools I listed are pretty damn good and I would like to stay in the midwest. Well anyways just keep the thoughts coming to help me sort out which universities I have a shot at.

Actually Michigan doens't require SATs. I would be sure to apply there, its not as hard to transfer in as you might think.

NYU also doesn't require SATs I think and you really might get in there. I second Umich. Its a really good school, far better than any of the ones you listed imo.

I had a 3.8 from community college and got into Northwestern. I don't anticipate you having any problems. Good luck

sorry i made a mistake NYU does require SAT's but if you haven't taken it in HS and you've been in college more than a year you might be able to apply, they don't clarify it on their website and they wouldn't so you should ask them if you want:

<a href="http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?page=standardized_tests&category=transfer%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?page=standardized_tests&category=transfer</a></p>

Thanks for the suggestion. With NYU and Northwestern I probaly won't even apply just because their private schools, thus they cost a outstanding amount of money. I have no clue aobut how generous they are with finacial aid and schlorships. I probaly give Michigan a shot just because you guys say I might have a good chance at it. My main school I want to get into is Illinois because it would be cheap for in-staters like me, and it's basically a public Ivy like most Big Ten schools.

It's all about priorities, good luck. You may not be looking into schools in that area, but UNC-Chapel Hill is a top notch public school that has a really fair tuition and is a lot easier getting in as an out of state student as a transfer, and imo it's better in most cases than any of the schools you originally listed.

Jacknjill, I actually looked at the tutition at collegeboard, and your right it is really reasonable in the price range even cheaper then michigan and other big ten schools I listed. So I will defiently strongly consider applying to UNC, even though I'm a midwest kind of guy. Great suggestion I never thought of that place without your opinion.

By the way, do they rrquire SAT
