oh yeah this was about bikes...ummm...it'll be awesome if you get the razr because you'll have a phone to use while riding your BIKE....there, now we're back on track.

Haha, excellent... but mightn't that be unsafe? (Especially for a Verizon user, who would constantly have to look at the phone, check that the connection was working, throw it on the ground and spit/stomp on it, etc. etc.)

haha. probably, but in college we'll have to learn how to multi-task. and besides, what's your helmet for?

So far I have seen many posts stating that the nearby bike shops will have no bikes during the orientation week, But what if I arrive in Stanford two days earlier on Sep 18th for the international orientation week? Won't bike shops, say in Palo Alto still have some bikes left? I don't really want to purchase the $200+ at the Campus Bike shop, so any advice would be great.

That's what I'll be doing; I would think that the bikes would be sold out during (regular) orientation, not before, so I think we'll be okay.

Just to let y'all know, even if you missed the order deadline you can still call the bike place and place an order. They still have some in stock. I ordered mine yesterday. I think the price is reasonable, but mostly I like the ease of it since I'm driving in from Nebraska.

I bought a bike at Costco for 150 bucks and it's been working great. The Stanford Bike shop, like all other things on campus, is a complete rip-off. Do not buy there. The bikes aren't even better than something you can get at Target for a third of the price.

hey rooster08 did you get it at a costco near stanford?? also did they have bikes left during orientation??

If you want to buy a bike from Target or Walmart, there are a lot of stores in the San Jose region, so if you move-in with your parents' car, have them stick around and drive you to get one. Forget about the ones at San Antonio Center, because they'll run out before you get there. The Walmart ($55-$60) and Target ($60) bikes are the most popular on campus. Also, you don't have to get a bike light, because they give you one when you register your bike. The police love to ticket students for two things: not having a bike light at night and not stopping for stop signs, so make sure you don't get caught doing that.
