I was wondering about the occurrences of bike theft at Cal Poly. If anyone has any info please share.

Also, are bikes protected from the rain where the dorms are located? Are you permitted to take your bike with you inside your dorm?

You can tell that I love and care about my bike :D

Bike theft occurs at Cal Poly, but believe it or not you really have to be negligent to have a bike stolen. Never leave it unlocked or unattended. Register it at the campus police station on the first day you move in. Get a U lock and a cable lock and use both at night. The U lock alone during classes in the day is more than enough. If your bike is very expensive with expensive parts that can be removed, then I would suggest bringing it inside at night. You will not be able to do that if you have a triple. So, you will have to pay extra for a campus apartment. There may be a rule that you can’t bring your bike inside. You will have to call housing for that answer. With regards to rain. There is little protection for bikes. What you can do is tarp it at night or carry a plastic shopping bag with you to tie it around the seat in rain storms. Another idea is to bring two bikes. One you can trash and leave outside and use as a commuter bike between classes and another that you keep indoors and ride when you train or go on excursions. This problem can be solved if you have a car. You can keep it in there.

Thanks alot! I will be getting an on-campus apartment (transfer) - seems I’ll be lucky enough to bring it inside.

I’m pretty sure every college has bike theft, but less to an extent at Cal Poly SLO.

What?
I thought Poly was filled with honest and nice people who would never steal.
