Is a bike necessary at UCSD?

not necessary, most people longboard

depending on your college you might want to get one

theres a recent thread about this so if you search you can find it

No, of course it's not necessary.

I actually don't recommend it while on-campus

With your bike parked/locked in school all the time, you have more likelihood that someone will try to steal it

tips to avoid theft (from personal experience)

get a U-lock

lock it in a heavily trafficked area (most res halls have plentiful bike parking)

don't buy a brand spanking-new bike

I have to agree with astrina. I got a bike Spring quarter and really ended up loving it. I didn't have one my freshman year or most of my sophomore year. Sometimes it was just as fast to walk, but a late night trip to OVT or if you having a class across campus will really make you appreciate it. Plus there are trails between ERC and Warren that you can ride on. I think I picked mine up for like $50 at Wal-Mart.
