How much money can you receive from winning this highly esteemed scholarship?

A lot. It's supposed to cover full tuition for all four years or very close to it.

But it's INCREDIBLY hard to get.

Actually, the GMS covers all unmet need and self-help as determined by your university's financial aid office (meaning your award is based on the unmet need listed on your tuition statement). So the amount of the award varies from scholar to scholar. It is more than just a four year scholarship though. In fact, the GMS will cover up to 5 years for an undergraduate degree, up to 2 years for a graduate degree (for certain areas of study only), and up to 3 years for a doctoral degree (also for certain areas of study only). For graduate and doctoral programs, the GMS will cover up to $20,000 for public institutions and up to $30,000 for private institutions.

The GMS is one of the most prestigious college scholarships available and thus is extremely competitive. In 2006, there were 1,000 scholars chosen from approximately 11,000 applications. Good luck with applying!
