OK..so originally i planned to take my check which i got from Bill Gates and take it to Murphy Hall on sept 20th before 5pm. But now plans had to change so i'm really worried i wouldn't be able to send my check on time.

what are the consequences if i don't send it on time?
can it be postmark by sept 20th?
I can send it tomorrow, sept 19th, and send it as a first class but i heard the check will have to go through a complex process to cosinder my check..so?

ok..so i was thinking to send it overnight tomorrow and see if the mail gets in by sept 20. But if worse comes to worse the only way to give my check is by saturday during moving-in day. i wouldn't suffer any consequences or would i? thank u soo much allie for helping me out!!!

I really don't know. I would just put it in the mail...it'll probably only take 2 days tops, which would leave you well within the grace period. Don't wait til Saturday.

I always just pay online, so I'm not positive. But if the grace period thing is accurate (I assume it is), and you send it tomorrow, you should be ok.

"Reminder: Payment is due on the 20th of the month following the posting date of the charge for all regular session students. If the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date is the working day before the 20th. Holds will be released upon full payment. Payments by check or credit card can be made during this session by selecting the appropriate payment buttons above. Payments by mail to the UCLA Remittance Processing Center are limited to checks and money orders. Payments made in person at the Administrative Main Cashier 1125 Murphy Hall, can be made with cash, checks or money orders.

As long as you put it in the mail tomorrow, it'll be postmarked tomorrow.

And really, the hold isn't that big of a deal. Like even if they don't get it by the 20th and they put a hold on your record, the hold will be lifted as soon as they get the check. They don't drop classes until the 28th or around there.

I don't see why you can't just pay it with a credit card in the mean time if you're so concerned? That will buy you about a month's worth of time, which should be more than enough for that money to go straight back to your bank account with Bruin Direct to pay that credit card bill?

"WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO PAY FOR FALL FEES WITH FINANCIAL AID?

The deadline for financial aid disbursements to pay for your Fall fees, before classes are dropped, is automatically extended by the Main Cashier to September 26 , 2006 . If your financial aid and scholarships cover only a portion of your fees then the out-of-pocket balance must be paid before September 20, 2006 to prevent the assessment of a $50 late charge. "

immediately upon getting my gates check, I sent it right away to the financial office. learn to get things done quickly to avoid all this crap. :)
