My son’s moving in next week. How should he pack his hanging clothes? Will we be allowed to haul those up ourselves in the shuttle bus or should they be boxed?
Also, as a future history/pol. sci. major, will he be needing binders? How much paperwork is kept as actual paper versus online versions only in today’s college environment?

I can’t comment on the first part of your post, but he’ll likely use a binder. Even if he doesn’t end up needing one, those things are cheap. Get one or two just in case. I typically go through two 1.5 inch binders every semester, but I like to print out professors’ slides and often hand write my own notes (research shows that writing notes is better for memory retention).
We drove in so we kept all my son’s hanging clothes on the hangers and tied the handles together. Put them in the large garbage bags and cut a small hole out of the garbage bag so the hanger handles can stick out. Tie the bottoms of garbage bags if you want to. You can use the dry cleaning bags as well but it won’t hold as many clothes as a garbage bag. You can either take them to the room yourself or let the movers take them up in the bin. Then all you have to do is to remove the bags and hang the clothes up in the closet. No unpacking needed.
