im really stuck between Hamilton college and Binghamton right now. i know that the two have basically nothing in common except the fact that they're in upstate new york, but i need help making a decision!!

i know these responses will probably also be biased, but id like your opinions!

i want to major in anthropology and both the schools offer it. the only downside is having to pay full tuition (53k) at hamilton, vs the 16k at bing. the other pros of bing are starting school later than at hamilton, having more $$ for other things, paying 15k not 50k to study abroad, etc. The cons would be a larger setting, more people, worse food?

i just really want to know if the alumni network at bing is good and if finding a job after college / applying to grad school is easy after finishing binghamton. and are the people nice? are they as smart as students at top liberal arts schools? and are the study abroad programs good??

id really appreciate your responses and words of wisdom!

Dose of reality - what are starting salaries for anthropology majors and with that salary would you rather pay off debt of 212K or 80K? And don’t forget you will be paying off that debt with after tax dollars so you’ll need to make 310k to pay off debt at Hamilton and 110K to pay off debt at Binghampton and that doesn’t take into account- interest or the threat that incomes taxes will rise in the future. And thats before you even think about graduate school…or put a roof over your head…

thanks for your response bonacspud.
i’m not sure what i want to do with the anthropology degree, i mean for all i know, i might change it so sociology, communications, or something else, or pursue a career in something else.

i actually wouldnt have any debt at binghamton and id have about 120K at hamilton…

If your planning to go to grad school, go to bing and save yourself some money as if you have a high gpa (prob easier at bing) you will get into a better school. Hamilton is a better school academically tho, and will probably get you a better initial job if you bypass grad school.

If you, or your family, can pay the full tuition at Hamilton WITHOUT taking out loans, then it might be worth the cost. However, if going to Hamilton leaves you or your family in debt – regardless of whether you go to grad school or not – then go to Binghamton. (BTW: I would be giving the same advice if the school was Harvard instead of Hamilton – going into enormous debt to pay for college is just not worth it.)

I love hamilton college! But i go to Binghamton and honestly love it more. Its worth going to Binghamton for cost, and you will still get a great experience here. I would say give Bing a try and if u don’t like it, you can always transfer. best of luck!
