I am working to make my dorm preferences and most posts regarding Binghamton dorms seem to be at least two years old. I am curious about the stereotypes of each dorm and how accurate each one is. Which dorm is known to be somewhat quiet, yet not totally anti-social? How do Binghamton's suites compare with corridor style? Also, does anybody have experience with chemical-free housing?
Thank you so much for any help!

It honestly doesn’t matter that much, you’ll make friends where ever you live. But I’ve lived in both corridor and suite style and I liked both. I think corridor is better for freshman because it makes you leave your room once in a while to go to the floor lounges. I like my suite as a junior since I knew everyone in it and had my social circle. I now live in Hillside with the same people. But here ya go:

CIW (I lived here for three years): For freshman, this is almost exclusively corridor style (exceptions: break housing in Mohawk is all suites and the occasional empty bed in the suites for the other buildings) but it’s extremely social and very community centered. Campus tutoring is based in this community. Closest to the Union.

Mountainview: Suites and, for freshman, occasionally designed triples (seen all types). New(ish) dorms (only Cascade has swipe cards for doors, as opposed to keys). If you have a good floor, it’s social, if not you have your suitemates. Highest hill for regular dorms.

Hinman: Suites. Fantastic community pride. A little quieter than CIW or Mountainview. Closest to the lecture hall/library area.

Newing: Corridor style with semi-private bathrooms. Social. It’s a farther walk than other communities. Very new buildings with swipe card keys for doors. Closest to Chabad.

Dickinson: These will be the newest buildings (old buildings are being turned into office space) with “flat” style rooms. Four singles or two doubles and a single. One bathroom. No common room. No clue how the community will change. Right now, the community is very cohesive. Original community. Will be fairly close to Union but not as close as CIW, and not as far as Newing.

Thank you so much for the overviews! I just have a few more questions. I am almost definitely going to sign up for chemical-free. I know Newing has had a reputation for having a lot of Greek life. It is noticeably so? I’m not a partier or incredibly social but definitely not anti-social. Do you have an opinion of where I would probably fit in the best? I’m probably leaning towards Mountainview…
Thanks again!
