Binghamton doesn’t have good research? That’s just blatantly untrue. We’re a research university. I know dozens of students who are involved in some pretty impressive research in the sciences, and we also have great research opportunities in the non-sciences.

I never said Binghamton doesn’t have a lot of interesting research going on. I just said that Stony Brook has more going on particularly in the sciences. However, Binghamton does have a lot of opportunities for undergrad and graduate students.

If obnoxious people like QCstudent is what Stony Brook is offering, I would not want to go there even if it was ranked #1

Until about 8 years ago many students accepted to Cornell but unable to afford the tuition came to Binghamton for an efficient degree. But now that Cornell’s support is very strong (they promise to meet need) most accepted students with financial need can choose Cornell. That really stripped Binghamton of most of the strongest students. But it used to be too academic for many students. When ti doubled its size, it became more accessible to students who would not have done as well there in the past. Now it is ideal for students who prefer a well rounded experience with some academics to a school that is very demanding. Those in the humanities and social sciences will probably like it the best. For science, go to StonyBrook.
