US News Rankings - Previous years

Does anyone know where Binghamton ranked in past years on the US News and World's rankings?

u may look it up online~
if Bing was among the top nationals, it should be there.

I think in the 70's but number 6 in the public university ranking

@Multitasker

That's not possible.

SUNY Binghamton was ranked #82 in the most recent US News survey. It was ranked #37 among public universities.

The trend for Bonghamton in recent years has been down. Not sure why. I don't put enough credence in the US News rankings to follow them in any detail.

The misspelling of "Binghamton" in the second paragraph was unintentional. I'm not suggesting that there is any connection between students' recreational pursuits and their school's US News ranking.

hudsonvalley51: So funny...As a "very old" alumni, I'm so naive, I never even thought about that reference before your faux paux....

The trend may be down for the following reasons: Bing has made a concerted effort to diversify geographically, especially in surrounding states....For that reason, and that reason alone, they have tended to accept some students (with decidedly lower stats)who might not have been accepted if they were NY residents.....this probably has reduced their average SAT scores and % of students in top 10% of class, but I don't think that they really care about rankings in that sense.....I think the agenda at this point, is to increase visibility outside of NY State (where it has had it's excellent rep for decades).......

I may get bashed for this assessment, but for those of us in NJ, we have seen this first hand......

I also think that as this trend continues, and BING becomes more attractive for OOS students it will become more difficult to be accepted and ratings will bounce back up....The ratings drop will not influence NY students IMO at all.....especially those who have parents who grew up in the SUNY system......

Thank you. That is very helpful.

Also, under Pataki, the SUNY system in general was underfunded. When faculty members left or retired, they weren't replaced, to save money. So the student/faculty ratio suffered. That number is a large component of the U.S. News ranking system.

That's the best I could do, if it was ever high in the rankings it would be there.

how is the finance undergrad in suny bing? :)
cuz i dnt see it on the ranking......
so apparently it's not in top 20 huh? :S

Actually, Binghamton is ranked 77th nationally among all schools and 34th in the public school listing.

Binghamton University - News and Events: News Releases

I believe it's moved from 86th to 77th place in the US news ranks in the past couple of years, so the current direction is positive. It's true that being a NYS school could hamper and potential set back it's rise in the rankings due to state budget issues/cutbacks, but that makes it's recent rise all the more impressive. Also with the current economic problems ( 401ks, 529 plans, home equity and job losses mount) good state schools such as Binghamton will potential benefit as students whom in the past would have considered top private instead may now be more inclined to go to a Binghamton for it's value (or lack of money). Time will tell
