im trying to decide between bing and nova. which is better? im looking to go to med school

If you’re thinking about med school, save your money on undergraduate studies and go to Binghamton.

Definitely Binghamton! The way the economy is going, it’d a great deal for a great school. PLus it’s just going to get harder and harder to get into, and it’s already a very well respected school.

thankss… i’ve decided to go to binghamton!

Smart choice. I would say if you weren’t going to go to grad school and could afford Villanova then i would have chose that but since your going to grad school Binghamton is a great school and as long as your grades are good you will have no problem getting into med school

Go to the one that has a higher percentage of graduates that are accepted to Medical School! I suspect this is villanova (and probably by a decent margin). If you get into med school the extra money will be worth it. If you aren’t, you will regret being cheap.

Harry…you’re wrong on the med school numbers. Bing is about 61% and Villanova is about 55%. Bing is definitely the best value here.

Bing has a fine reputation and track record. You’ll determine where you’ll get into med school - not your undergraduate institution.

MPNY, you may be right, I don’t know. Would you please provide me with the source of those stats?

Harry, You can find the information here [Think Binghamton University](http://think.binghamton.edu/alumni_leaders.php)
at least for Binghamton.

You have to did a little deeper. Most students can not apply to medical school without the undergrad’s school recommendation. Some schools – not saying Binghamton – withhold the recommendation if they dont think the student has a good chance. You should talk to some present students – are there any kids from your HS that go there.

kayf is correct. percentages of students admitted to med schools can often be misleading. a lot of undergrad schools that have a high percentage of student being accepted to med school will prevent students they feel will NOT be accepted from even applying…thus keeping the stats high for that particular undergraduate program or college.

Definitely Binghamton. Great reputation for less.

If KAYF is correct, make sure that Binghampton doesn’t require a you to clear your application with the school. That should be illegal. If Binghampton does this, I wouldn’t even consider it if I were you.

That actually may be the difference because 61% sounds pretty high especially with the large enrollment.

Virtually all medical schools require the undergrad school to sign off on application.

I know for a fact that almost every undergraduate school practices “signing off”. Its a shame. Most SUNYs do it, but check with Binghamton to make sure.

If all medical schools require it you would think all colleges would sign off on every student. If you are a graduate and the school refuses to allow you to apply (i.e. won’t sign off) that is basically ripping them off. How can a school graduate a student in premed and then say “no we won’t approve you applying to med school.”
