I'm in state for Binghamton
When I visited Maryland I really fell in love with it, especially the school spirit and proximity to DC. But my savings will only pay for 3 years. If I go to Binghamton, I'll hopefully graduate debt free. I like Binghamton, but I didn't fall in love with it like Maryland. I want to eventually go to medical school so cost is a huge factor. My major would be bio. Any suggestions? I'm so lost

I can’t help you to compare the 2 schools. But here is additional information I know. I’m in state for UMD.
1, Some colleges in College Park offer scholarship for year 2,3, and 4. You will apply as a freshman. I was told it’s this way in the Engineering College. So ask your college/department what scholarship one can apply AFTER you go to there.
2, I know this from my parents’ friends kids. They were in bio/chem major and worked in the labs in school. I don’t know how much they made, but I’d think it would off set some cost.

Good luck!

Don’t go into debt for undergrad. If you ever have to take out loans for education, do it for graduate studies.

Med school in your future? Definitely choose the cheaper option then.

if you’re serious about med school (and not one of the 50% freshmen who think they want premed because they haven’t explored their options yet) choose the cheapest option. Med schools don’t care about where you went to school, only about GPA+MCAT scores, and they do care that you can pay full costs since there’s no financial aid. Premeds should go where they will maximize GPA and minimize debt.

Thanks everyone I think I’m going with Binghamton. They both have pretty much the same med school acceptance so I don’t think the extra $20k a year is worth it.

congratulations!
