Which would be better for pre-med bio 101 or bio(molec focus) 121?

I feel like bio 101 wouldn't be as much of a gpa crusher as 121...but would bio 121 prepare me better for the mcat? I think that the mcat might be adding a molec focus in 2015 and I may take it then.

What do other pre-med students at penn do?

Hi @knight2011!

Technically both are ok for pre-med. If you have AP Bio experience, then I would suggest at least trying Biol 121…I have heard that it does cover more material, the tests focus more on concept than memorization, and the curve is not very good ( I think it’s curved to a B-). However, if you don’t have a very strong bio background, then I would recommend taking Biol 101. If you want to take more molecular bio, then you can always take biol 221 (molecular biology and genetics) after you take 101/102
