bio basis/health services mgmt minor

hey i'm interested in doing this, i'm gonna be a freshman next year in the college, will i have to fill out an application for it since part of the minor is gonna be wharton related?

I'm looking to minor in this too if everything works out as planed and I don't drop premed.

no, you can register for wharton classes just as you would college classes

p.s. it's also a very worthwhile minor to pursue, especially if you're a bio major and you can double count a lot of courses

EDIT: i typed my post as Venkat posted that, sorry for the redundancy

yea venkat same here, gonna try out this minor w/premed if goes as planned, although i'm not sure what to major in but i've got a lot of time and exploration to do before then. thanks to both of you for the input......SASer what about the health and societies major is that a popular one along with bio/bio basis for premeds, do you think its useful or would doing a "hard" science" for a major be better prep?

regardless of major you'll still be fulfilling the same science prereqs as all other premeds, so prep-wise you'll be fine.

and yes hsoc is a popular premed major, as is bio and bbb.

If my primary goal is to eventually get into med school, is majoring in Economics and minoring in this be practical?

a couple of points:

1) what you major in does not matter as far as med school admissions are concerned, AT ALL. you have to fill the same premed requirements no matter what, and all majors are admitted to med school at rates roughly equivalent to the proportion of students in that major who apply (this data naturally controls for things like GPA differences across majors)

2) yes, health and societies is a popular major for premeds

3) i HATE health and societies with a passion, basically I feel it's an essentially useless program put together for premeds who aren't strong enough in the sciences to major in a science or in bbb, and are so hellbent on being premed that they can't branch out into something else that interests them for the purposes of their major

4) while the above is essentially my personal diatribe against what I feel is a very fluffy program, the last point is actually quite important. A large proportion of the people who come in to Penn, or any other school for that matter, and think they want to go to med school do not ultimately do so. Many change their minds or are have difficulty with the tough requirements, so it is important to have an alternative plan in place, and I don't feel hsoc sufficiently helps a student do this.

As someone else looking into this, @phillySASer08, going from both your posts (one cited from Venkat), the minor is certainly worthwhile, even if the major is "fluff" (biochem for me so no worries :D )?

i think you misunderstand his comment - he's saying that the hsoc major is fluffy (and i agree), but that the bbb/hcmg minor is great, and i, having taken hcmg 101, also agree.

ellllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooheeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllll

i wonder if sdong really has an S-shaped ....

@tenebrousfire - yea that's the impression I got (see my post)... just trying to make sure
@meng ..... no... just... no....

oh come on, we all know I have a 'meng' shaped Cheng
