Hi, this is sixteen-year-old sophomore at Texas high school.

I am not certainly sure what I want to do, but as of right now, I'm interested in becoming a neurosurgeon. If not, I want to do something in business field.

Someone recommended that I should major business and minor premed, and then go to medical school. He told me schools want diversity so majoring in business before med school wouln't be bad.

Wharton is obviously the best undergrad business school.
I was surfing and found a person in my situation, and everyone recommended that person to go to Ivies instead.
But why?

I'm pretty sure i want to become a surgeon.
Is premed too hard at wharton or something that will hinder my grades ultimately preventing me from getting into ivy med school?
Please help!! thank you!

Taking a roster with things like Chemistry, Physics, Finance and Accounting at the same time would be brutal.

But it's actually not that hard to do Pre-Med and Wharton at the same time. Pre-med is also not a minor, its just a set of class requirements you need to fulfill.

Be aware that at Penn Pre-Med and Wharton are both extremely competitive.

Choco's right. While it would be nice to have both options as "backups", you have to choose one of the career paths at some point, and the sooner the better. Trying to do both at Penn would be a nightmare, and there really isn't any crossover.

I say study something you like and cover the pre-med requirements. You can always go to b-school later in life.

Johnny, apply to Life Sciences & Management Program, Management Track (LSM). It is a joint-degree program and designed only for kid like you - for business and/or medicine. All the prerequsite courses for MCAT except organic chemistry are covered in LSM. You have to take orgo as extra. It's very tough and competitive (only 15 seats), and you have to spend three summers for doing mandatory internship ( business) and research (life science) at Penn - only one week vacation at home each summer.

Alternately, you can matriculate to only business program and take all the prerequisites for MCAT: physics, chemistry, biology and orgo. This is much easier than LSM.

my friend was just accepted to that joint degree program, its insanely competitive to get in, and extremely rigorous once you get there
