I was admitted to U of Rochester, Wash U, and U of Minn College of Biological Sciences. I want a general biology program as I'm not sure of my concentration. I want to go on to get a Ph.D. in Biology. What school should I pick?

Is money at all a factor?

Yes. Both Wash U and Rochester have given a bit a money to help offset their enormous cost, but nothing can compete with the cost of U of Minnesota who have offered me an instate tuition scholarship. Their CBS/College of Biological Sciences program is amazing. But both the other schools are so much smaller and have amazing reputations.

To add to my last post. Will the reputation of my undergrad school make that much of a difference when applying to graduate school? Or is the reputation of my graduate school the key in the end? U of Minn has an amazing reputation, but I’m not sure it’s “thought” of in the same category as Wash U and U of Rochester.

I would choose Wash U over Rochester because I have heard amazing things out Wash U’s biology department and the weather at Wash U is overall better. Plus, I think Wash U’s reputation is even better than Rochester’s. The reputation of the undergrad school does matter somewhat, but going into tons of debt for it is not worth it. If you’d have to take out more than a reasonable amount of debt, go to U of Minn.

gunther6456 makes a very good point. In this instance give very careful consideration to finances before making your decision. Talk to FA at WashU and explain your situation - there may be additional help available. If not, then go with the money.

Wash U Finaid was very helpful with me. If its a concern and if you can document the situation and why you need more money, they can help.
