Bio Placement Test

How does that test work out, do you take it in the summer or orientation week? And if you pass it can you skip out of all or part or none of Core Bio and do you get credit for it?
Thanks.

The Bio test is taken online over the Summer; it has no bearing on actual course placement.

^^^ then why have the test?

Yeah I second that question then why have that test?

bump? Who and where could I contact from UChicago counselors or advisers about this?

The test is just for “diagnostics,” whatever that means. I think they just use the information to get an idea of what biology people know going in. For instance, the biology department offered a new form of Core Biology this year, and they change it a little each quarter. I’m assuming that they use the diagnostic test to know how difficult to make the course.

The way the biology courses are constructed, a placement test is a bit pointless. You can do the stuff for non-nonmajors, the 20180s sequence, the 20190s sequence, or the AP 5 fundamentals sequence. They all have little things written in the prerequisites that serve as placement advice.

Last year, we did the test over the summer online. I’m not sure how they’ll do it this year.

Oh I wish there was a way to get credit for Core Bio (since I didn’t take the AP exam) and not need to take it but I guess not. Thanks for the info JB.
