Bio prep - is my method good? :S

I’m taking the October 4 Biology SAT II. This is how I’m studying for it.

Barrons Bio 2008:
-Total of 16 chapters, every day read a chapter twice VERY
carefully. Repeat this process twice in August.
-Read the book once again, thoroughly and carefully in
September.
- For the last time read the book between 1-3 October.
- (6 reads in total)

Sparknotes Biology:
- Read the book twice in August.
- In the remaining time, read the book once again
- (3 reads in total)

I plan on scoring 750+ but I’m really not THAT good at bio, I just wanted to ask if what I’m doing is good or should I change something. I took an introductory Bio course last year.

Any suggestions would be helpful :)

For me, it's not about reading, but practicing with tests and getting used to format and questions. I would definitely do 1 or 2 tests a week and you'll be set!

Yeah - less reading, add some practice tests.
I really think reading 9 times is overkill.

I would really urge you to consider adding PR.
there are things in Barron AND SparkNotes that aren't covered.

ex: the isotonic salt solution is .9%

I have read all three books multiple times. and I think that reading Sparknotes isn't necessary.
I would stick with Barron, and if you have time read over PR once.

I can't believe you would read a book 6 times. That's crazy.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I'm not an expert on Bio M or anything, but I think it might be better if you read books and don't read the same book so many times. After three times, you are going to be bored and not really learning anything new. If you really want to put that much effort in, I would recommend getting another review book. For physics, I have sparknotes, PR, Barrons and Kaplan. I'm not sure if all of those companies have Bio M books, though. If they do, it will be more interesting, you will have more practice tests, and you will see more material that might not be covered in Sparknotes/Barrons. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

Well if I would be living in the US, buying review books would be no problem for me:P but since I live in a place where all these review books r non existent, I have to order them through amazon which takes months, I got princeton, I think I'll read both princeton and barrons thrice and give the SAT II a shot, if I dont score well, I'll prep more and give it one more shot.

Thanks for the inout guys :)

^ reading them 6 times SHOULD technically guarantee you a ~750+...im planning on taking the biology sat as well but I won't have nearly enough time to read it that many times...ill go with twice (taking notes the first time + reviewing the 2nd) gl though

Ok. Coming from a person who scored 800 on SAT Biology in June. Don't just use Barrons and Sparknotes. Barrons is ridiculously boring, remembering all the material takes forever. Sparknotes SAT Biology is barely anything.

Since you only took introductory biology, I think reading the PR review book is the best. I've recommended PR to everyone who's going to take SAT biology. It explains things pretty well, better than Barrons or sparknotes.

Also the tests in Barrons and Sparknotes are crap. I scored 700 on Barrons and 680 in Sparknotes the day before I took the actual SATII. Try to get a real collegeboard test.

please do not read any prep book 6 times.

Reading a book after the first few times is not going to help much. If you cannot recall material after reading it 3 times, then I doubt reading it another 3 times will be effective. It is better to read it slowly the first time, taking more than adequate notes, and then review it again in the weeks before the test, to ensure retention of the material.
