I’m planning on majoring in ChemE at UM. Initially, I was set on double majoring in ChemE and Biochem, however now I"m unsure. Would it be a smarter decision to minor in biochem instead?
Thanks!

If Michigan’s ChemE program is setup like what I had experienced at Berkeley, you can choose electives within the ChemE major that will give your degree a little more emphasis in a particular area. Biochemistry was an option. If so, I would look into biochem electives without needing the full minor or double major. There is a lot of overlap these days between biochemistry and chemical engineering. Some programs have started changing their names to Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
I’m currently a sophomore ChemE here. It’s a demanding major, and so is Biochem. A minor is doable (quite a few of the ChemE requirements overlap with the minor), but a double major would be difficult. And you’ll probably graduate a year later at the earliest.
ChemE concentrations can be found here: http://www.engin.umich.edu/che/undergraduate/program/reqs/concentrations
A good fit would probably be BioPharmaceutical Engineering or Life Sciences.
Note that double major in two different schools would mean more graduation requirement to fulfill besides majors.
