Biochem???

So I’ve recently decided that I want to major in Biochemistry-- and maybe even a minor in Math. That’s not my problem.
My problem is that I want an engineering background, not just a science one. I have thought of other ways around this, such as majoring in Chemical Engineering with a minor in BioChem, or even BioMed Engineering, but I’m just not so much into the idea of doing Chemical Engineering and everything that career would entail.

I have a fascination with BME but have heard of it as “jack of all trade” major, do you think that my choice of BioChem without an engineering course would be fine along that sort of route? If not, how could I manage to make this work?

Toying around with the possibility of going to Pharm school in the future, I know that having an engineering course may not be mandatory, but the whole Pharmacist thing isn’t set in stone AT ALL. I do still want to have engineering up my sleeve, but I’m just not sure how to fit it in with my plans, please help.

I’m not sure I understand what your goal is. You want an engineering background, but you don’t want to major in engineering?

Biochemistry is not a substitute for engineering–not for any kind of engineering, including BME.

I think the issue here is that you’ve got a number of different interests–science, engineering, and pharmacy–and you’re not sure which to pursue. That’s fine–it sounds like you’re not in college yet, and it’s normal to not know what you want to do at this point. But you will have to choose, eventually, and what you choose will determine your path. It seems like, even though you’re not sure yet, you do have solid feelings for engineering. It might be a good idea to begin as an engineering major. Choose one of the traditional disciplines: chemical, mechanical, electrical, or civil. If you decide after a couple semesters that it’s not for you, it should be relatively easy to switch to something like biochemistry.
