I'm a biochem major and am picking classes for the Spring semester soon. The critical tracking says I should be taking chem 2 and calc 2, but the recommended semester plan says I should be taking chem 2, calc 2, AND bio 1. Is there a reason why they recommend doubling up on sciences? If I take those classes plus the labs involved..and a cultural anthro class for diversity, is that way too much?

I have credit for Bio 1 and bio lab, but I'm premed so I'm thinking I have to retake it...

I tried going to honors advising, CLAS advising, and even called the chem dept and they keep saying for me to just take whatever is recommended...but I asked sophomores and they think it's too much. Any insight would be appreciated! :)

You need to realize that as a pre-med student (and as a biochem student) the courses you take from here on out are ging to be difficult, and will probably end up stacking at the same time. I’m in semester 3 and taking the exact same schedule as you are, well kind of. Chem 2, Bio 2, Calc1, and with intro physics thrown in. My schedule isnt too hard, and I find it doable if I put forth the effort. I’m actually kicking myself about NOT double up and starting my main classes earlier in my 1st semester. If you’d like to talk more abut it and how i’m donig with my schedule let me know. It’s not as hard as some make it out to be. And I had several people telling me i was insane, but hey, you gotta do what you have to do.

And yea; from what I’ve been told, it looks best if you complete your core classes at actual college institutions instead of from AP credits.

how’s the biochemistry major at UF? I’m thinking of majoring in either biochem or bio (im premed). Is is super hard like most people say? Are the chem classes hard?
