Hey guys. I'm interested in possibly going to med school after college. However, I'm really stressed over what to major in. Bioengineering sounds really interested but I heard it is really intense and hard to maintain good grades in. Since med school is all about GPA, would it be more beneficial to major in something easier rather than bioengineering? Also, I really want to go to UCSD but its bioE program is so strong I doubt i'll get in. Would it be more beneficial to apply as biochem to have a higher chance?

If it were me, I'd major in biochem since it relates to the field of medicine better and your goal is to get into med school. Bioengineering makes more sense when you want to work on engineering applications as a career.

In any case, it's better to major in what you're interesting. Most people would say that it's essential to major in what will benefit your GPA, as it is a crucial factor in admissions.

Ideally, you should major in something that interests you, however I understand that if your ultimate goals are Medical School you might have to play the GPA game.

Yet you need to keep in mind that Medical Schools DO NOT care about your UG major but only about the MCAT/pre-med prereqs.

Biochemistry would have more relevance to med school than bioengineering. But like nshah said, you can major in anything. I think the highest acceptance rate to med school is with literature majors or something like that. As long as you take your orgo and maybe a biochem class or two (whichever classes said med schools require)...you can major in anything
