biochem vs bioengineering

Hey guys. I'm interested in possibly going to med school after college. However, I'm really stressed over what to major in. Bioengineering sounds really interested but I heard it is really intense and hard to maintain good grades in. Since med school is all about GPA, would it be more beneficial to major in something easier rather than bioengineering? Also, I really want to go to UCSD but its bioE program is so strong I doubt i'll get in. Would it be more beneficial to apply as biochem to have a higher chance?

Thanks!

You should look into what engineering actually entails before committing to that major ... but on the other hand, I applied (BE:PM), got in, and decided during my first quarter that there was no way in hell I'd continue. I switched to biochem and loved it -- so to each his own, but don't let the "higher chance of acceptance" thing pull you down. It's always easier to escape the BE department than to fight your way into it.

I don't think your choice of major really has much of an effect on whether you get accepted or not. I know some people who applied as bioengineers but didn't get accepted as bioengineers; however, they still got accepted into the university. So, you wouldn't really have a "higher chance" of getting in if you applied as a biochem major. If I were you, I would apply as a bioengineering major, and you can always switch out if you would rather study something else. Once you start taking classes, you will have a much better idea of what you like/don't like.
