Pros vs. Cons?

I really need to stay in the Los Angeles area, so I don't have that many other choices for schools. But, if you have others, it would be appreciated!

Berkeley’s College of Chemistry

Pros:
Great professors
Tons of class offerings
Lots of very intelligent peers

Cons:
Professors are not easily accessible
Classes can be tough to sequence properly within 4 years
YOur intelligent peers are likely premed, which means hyper competitive, and a very low % of A grades (about 15%) awarded in the pre-med weed-out courses (whether you’re premed or not)

In greater LA, you’ve also got Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Occidental, USC (which is so large it’s not actually that different from UCLA), Caltech, the Claremont Consortium, and at 90 min. drive. U of Redlands and UC Irvine, and Westmont in SB.

If you’re planning premed, I would suggest you consider a smaller program where you might develop relationships with Professors to begin research, and get recos for med school.

@UCBChemEGrad

I have looked at them, and I would love to go there, but it’s kinda far from where I need to be. Thank you though!

@DunninLA

Thank you!
I’m just looking for my B.A. in biochem for a career in forensics. I will definitely look at those other schools as well!
