Biology and premd

All of you who are currently premed, if you placed out of BI-20 or got credit because of the AP exam, what biology did you take your first semester at Brown if you took a biology course? I am having a difficult time choosing. Also, shouldn’t you repeat BI-20 because I know that I forgot a lot of stuff from BI-20 and would be useful for the MCATs. Do you think they’ll let me retake BI-20 even though I got a 4 on the AP exam? Thanks for the input.

they won't care. take it if you want to.

theres no point in taking BI20...take any course thats interesting.

why a waste? isn't it good for premeds as general bio is on the MCAT. So i imagine that the class teaches you stuff that you forgot from AP bio in high school and adds some more. I'm just afraid it's going to appear on the MCAT and I won't remember much because I took AP bio in 11th grade and never took general bio in college.

uh, since you take intro bio about 2-2.5 years before you likely take the MCAT, you aren't going to remember it anyway. that's why people study for the MCAT. chill out

and it's not like intro bio doesnt apply to more advanced bio

so what bio courses did you take freshman year? I want to take others, but it seems that they're way to advanced and require some chem.

take evolutionary bio

yeah, that's the one my advisor recommended, but it didnt really interest me, same with embryology in the spring.

what bio courses did you take i wanna be Brown. Also, I would take evolutionary bio but i want a bio with lab..........should I consider taking Bio 80 Principles of Physiology......?

take whatever interests you, not what someone tells you

Im doing Intro Neuro and Cell Biology probably if you care...

who cares if evolutionary bio has a lab or not? i know that premed reqs say that you need bio with a lab, but if you find the course interesting, why not take it? you have a while to fulfill those premed reqs.

well my advisor is a little more concerned about grades than I am, but he only has my best intetions, so i listened to him, other than evolutionary and embryology, (well and neuro, but that's BN) he doesnt think any of the mid level bio classes are good for frosh. I ended up taking no bio classes this year, but i did get my math requirement out of the way, did orgo, got halfway through the requirements for my other major (i'm doing a double with a humanities major) and so on. This coming semester as a sophomore, i'm taking BI80, BN1 (which I wanted to take as a frosh but I took an FYS at that timeslot instead). Basically this year my advisor is loosening the reigns, and then next year he's basically letting go. An advisor is not someone you HAVE to listen to. I chose to take his advice and put off the classes I wanted to take, and in fact it is because of this that I discovered how easy a double major would be, and like i said, i am 4/8 classes through it after just 1 year.

thanks guys.........i find many stuff interesting, but i was just wondering what would be appropriate for a freshman. stuff like genetics which i'm very much into i found out would be better if it was taken as a sophomore. so i'm just trying to figure out which awesome bio class i could manage as a freshman. thanks for the advice.

anyone know if BI 20 is a weed out course or is very difficult? also is it helpful to take it to reinforce bio AP materials and build a strong foundation for cell biology and genetics.

it's really not difficult. there are three midterms, and your worst one is dropped. lab is a joke.

neuro counts towards the bio major...
