Hi everyone,
I will start my first quarter in foothill after two weeks, and I am planning to transfer with biology as my major.
I know that I aimed so high:my first choice is MCB in Cal or molecular genetics in UCLA.I hope that I can get a TAG with UCI and I am considering UCI as my backup.Actually I will be happy to enter any biology related major offered by Cal ,UCLA and UCSD.I know that UCD and UCSB also offers good biology program ,but they have different requirement on physics ,so I am not considering programme offered but these two school.
As I am familiar with science subject,I think I can get a good GPA(3.5 at least) and I am going to finish igetc and try to finish the major requirements. But I have some questions in mind:
1.what if I cannot finish all the major requirement?
2.what ECA can help me and get me into good school?
3.where can I get detail information If I want to apply for some private uni eg.stanford/Cornell?
4.can you guys give me some suggestions on some out of state uni which offer good biology programme and is possible to transfer?
5.which one is more important?igetc or major requirements?

I will be happy to receive your answers.anyway thankyou so much for finish reading this :)

Depends. See assist.org. Most majors won’t be too strict if you miss one or two pre-reqs, but having them all means you have a better chance of getting accepted.

Do anything you enjoy. Seriously. My suggestion: what could be better than a pre-med major (I assume so) volunteer at a local hospital?

Trivial question… their websites of course. Cornell is transfer-friendly as far as I know. Stanford? That’s one hell of a long dream.

Of all these, you should research some schools by yourself to see if they are transfer-friendly or not. Sorry but this is UC Transfer Forum, I don’t have the knowledge to help you with OOS

Obviously major requirements… But if you want to save money (I assume you are international by the way you post), then completion of IGETC = saving thousands of bucks for upper division courses

Take the classes you need. Apply. If you don’t finish on time, hope for the best or reapply the next year. Having a missing prereq or two won’t kill your chances of getting accepted. From what I’ve heard, UCLA and UCB like to see the life science series completed first, then organic chemistry. If you have time, do physics; I transferred without it.

Do what you want. First and for-most, UCs care about GPA and completion of prereqs. You don’t have to cure cancer, just get involved: join a club, get an internship, volunteer, tutor, whatever.

3., 4. Can’t help you here.

I think this one is depends on the school, major, and the prereq in question. Generally speaking, I’d say major prereqs are more important; especially for life science majors. However, I’ve yet to meet someone whose transferred to either UCLA or UCB and has not finished IGETC, go figure. Also keep in mind, sacrificing one for the other will hurt your chance of admission.
