Biology major

I got a 750 on the Biology Subject SAT and a 4 on the AP Biology exam. I want to major in Biology. Should i retake either of those exams? I am a rising junior in high school.

don’t retake the AP exam. Only 5.4% got a 5, and it’s not worth the $90 to try and get a 5 (especially when the new test barely tests any bio knowledge). The subject test is also pretty good, but if you think you can do better, then it can’t hurt to retake it.

Both are fine. Focus on the stuff you’ll be doing Junior year. One thing you may want to consider is trying to line up a biology-type experience for next summer. It’s early but these things show up earlier than a lot of people expect.

Rising senior here with around the same scores for Bio. I’d say only retake it if your dream college won’t accept the 4 for college credit and want the 5. Most college’s will the the 4 so don’t worry about it. Plus, only 7% of people got a 5 so a 4 is still pretty good! Junior year is going to be hard; why make it harder? If you want to major in Biology for pre med you could try to shadow a doctor. If you want to be a biologist, you could try to find a lab that allows high school students to work with them (colleges love this on your app). Look through a nearby college’s Biology department faculty page and email some professors whose work you’re interested in asking if you could volunteer of if they could be your mentor. Good luck and don’t get too stressed!

No, you did great! Time to move on.
