Biology or Pre-Calculus

Hey I am currently a sophomore and am signed up for Dual-Enrollment at a local University during the summer. I am going to be taking two classes, psychology, and another that I am having a hard time choosing. Would it be more beneficial for me to take Precalculus or Biology? I am taking IB Biology my junior and senior year and a class similar to Pre-calculus junior year so it isn’t like I won’t learn this elsewhere. I also have no personal preference between the two classes. So I was wondering, which should I take, Biology or Pre-Calculus? And which would look better when I apply to colleges in the future?

First, don’t base your class/course choices on what you think colleges want to see, but base them on your personal and real interests. If you HONESTLY don’t have any personal preference I would say to flip a coin. IMO I would choose biology because I really don’t know why one would need to learn pre-calculus at a college.

I would recommend taking both dual enrollment and dropping psychology, unless you have a big preference for it. If you’re concerned over appearances to admissions officers, two college courses in core classes would easily trump one core class and one elective-type class.

Between pre-calc and biology, i would recommend taking biology. I just got done with my AP Bio and Pre-calc classes this year, and Pre-calc was more difficult than Bio. In fact, most people (students/teachers) that i’ve asked have said they believe Calculus to be harder than Pre-calc. Many people that were normally straight A students in my school barely scraped out B’s or even C’s this year in that class. My point is, since pre-calc is probably gonna be the most commonly taken math class at wherever you’re going and this will likely mean large classes, impersonal teachers, etc. These problems will exist with a General Biology class as well, but the concepts in biology are nearly always easier to grasp than those of pre-calc.

Signed up for Bio and Psychology. Thanks guys. I definitely have a huge preference for Pych and my love for science was more than that of math so there goes biology. Time to start school again in 20 days!
