For those students that are attending/attended Oxford College, what are your opinions on being a biology major, or a pre-med student?
Do you find it very challenging?
Grade deflation?
How are the science professors?
Do you ever need to go to the main campus for classes?
Do you find it difficult to balance studying for classes as well as the MCAT?
I just finished my freshman year at oxford and I’ll offer my take on it. Premed at oxford is definitely pretty challenging. A huge portion of the student body is premed and it is often difficult to get into all the classes you need in your freshman year. This can be kind of annoying, and beyond this many premed classes have an INQ designation which renders the course even more difficult. The professors are very good for the most part, and truly want to help their students. Oxford students cannot take classes at main campus besides summer semester. Haven’t started studying for the MCAT yet so I can help you with that, but I envision that it will be relatively difficult.
Usually people take on a light courseload than normal while MCAT studying. In addition, most take biochem while or before taking that so that probably won’t happen until on main campus.
